Ariel blinked. "I am technically the head of the family, if you trace the bloodline of House Targaryen and not the crown," she commented. "But if you'll do it your way, I'll do it mine. I'm already 'Ariel the Defiant,' am I not? I may as well let my best side shine at my wedding."
"And very well, I won't abuse your trust, though you know that I will always stand for what's right and lawful, and we both know that the circumstances that triggered this particular Tarlyfuck won't be springing up again. As for the eye you'll need to keep in mind..."
She smiled. "As you say, I must uphold traditions. And it's tradition for brides-to-be to repeatedly lose their chaperones when meeting with their grooms." Not the sort of tradition Rhaenys had in mind, she imagined.

Rhaenys shrugged.
"Do as you please at your wedding then, so long as you sa7y the words. That's all that truly mattres. I'm sorry to be such a tyrant with you but I'd look weak and foolish if I did not. You'll note that I did not say one of my people had to be in close proximity, only present to see you."

Ariel looked at Rhaenys and sighed. "Your Grace, you're wrong in this," she said. "You look weaker when you attempt to keep me on a leash than when you let me have my head. Think on it." She shrugged. "Anyway."
"Do you need anything else, Your Grace?"

"Yes," she said. "I have said I am willing to put the past behind me. Will you do so too?"

Ariel smiled widely at Rhaenys. "What past, coz?"
She walked over to her cousin and opened her arms.

Rhaenys allowed herself to smile too as she hugged Ariel.
"You do know that I don't plan for you to spend all your life in exile in the West, don't you?"

Ariel hugged back and smiled at Rhaenys. "Of course. Like I said, I'll be back in King's Landing at the worst possible moment for our enemies."

"Good. I'll need you to defer to Lord Lannister if he wants you back at Casterly Rock to begin wit, as it's only natural. Do not hesitate to write to me if you need some time away and I'll likely be able to summon you to attend me. I'll probably be spending some time at Kings Landing anyway."

Ariel smiled at Rhaenys. "Don't worry. Casterly Rock will be my home now, until it's time for me to have three homes and fly between them a-dragonback. Or four, depending on Tyberion's actions."

"Four?" Rhaenys asked. "Three I understand, and I'll most like find you something in the West to make it easier for you, but why four?"
And you aren't having one of my dragons.

Ariel smiled wickedly. "As I said, it depends on Tyberion. If he's planning to push me for the throne, I may end up looking for a new husband when I'm done cleaning his and Owen's personal effects out of the Rock."

"That's not funny," Rhaenys commented, frowning. "For you, maybe, but not for me. Let's not think about something that may never happen. Neither one of us is even married yet.2

Ariel nodded. "Alright," she said, but then looked at Rhaenys with a smile. "Though don't say you're not married, Rhaenys. Perhaps not married before the Kingdoms and the Seven, but you were married in your heart long before now. Lucky woman, to find her lover and her husband to be the same person."

Rhaenys smiled.
"A man would have to be a poor husband if he could not satisfy his wife, don't you think?"

Ariel chuckled. "A man does his duty to his wife, but love? That's for those rare few where the Maiden, Mother and Crone all smile on the man they're given to. Or for those even rarer few who have overindulgent sisters and cousins. It will not be to Owen that I lose my heart, that much I know." She smiled, a trifle sadly.
