"I hear you have a cousin." Milo replied, picking dirt from under his fingernail.

"Yes. Ariel, a distant cousin. What of her?"

"She is a Targaryen as well, is she not?" Milo asked, sounding bored.

"Yes, but she is a troublemaker. Is Lord Lannister willing to accept her even under those conditions?"
Rhaenys wasn't sure what to make of the idea. It would an easy way to get rid of Ariel and still keep an eye on her, without having to bring her to trial, but she would still have to be wary of the Lannisters even if the marriage removed the initial problem.

"I just wish to get an opinion on all of your relatives, Rhaenys." Milo replied. "Anyway, from what I hear Aegon is quite the troublemaker himself."

"He did swear fealty when it counted and he did not incite one of my lords to arrest one of my followers," she said. "And you are over familiar. Kindly remember to address me correctly."

"Of course, your most gracious of all graces, milady queen." Milo said with a snicker.

"Don't overdo it!" She snapped. "You would prefer Ariel to Aegon then?"

"They are both unsuitable." Milo said, seemingly uncaring of the Queen's tone. "Though I will speak with Tyberion."

"Thank you. Please impress upon him my desire that one of the two options be accepted. I really do want this marriage alliance between our houses."

"As you say." Milo replied, before leaving.

"This man is a charlatan, Rhaenys." growled Aegon contempuously. "He doesn't know what he is talkiing about."

She turned to him with a worried look on her face.
"Then what would you have us do? We have no choice but to play along with Lord Lannister's game."

"Lannister had already accepted my suit for his one of his daughters probably the eldest...subject to his speaking with her. If that is his envoy...", Aegon indicated the departing Hill, "...then that little matter wasn't mentioned, was it. One of the reasons I don't deal with envoys."
"As I told you and your Small Council, there was no betrothal at that point. There would have been eventually I had every intention of informing you once a betrothal had been officially announced.
"Now, given your personal interference in the matter, Lannister's obviously trying to get as much out of you as he possibly can. If you had left it to me, you would have had your alliance for much less than what it will probably cost you now. Now that your personally involved and Lannister knows your personally involved, he'll now play off an alliance involving Ariel and an alliance involving me...until he gets what he wants."

She gave him a reisgned look.
"Frankly, Aegon, I don;t mind if you marry a Lannister or Ariel does, as long as someone does, but not both of you. It saves me having to put Alysanne into an intolerable position and allies us with House Lannister. That is what matters to me. You're mssing the point. Lord Lannister thinks I betrayed him because Kyma was obliged to marry Lord Thatcher, whereas I was simply hoping to get her back and then, once I knew, I began considering who else was available. You were, of course, the best option. I did not know at that point that you had already considered the matter on your own account. The reason I must be involved, Aegon, is that we need this marriage, if it goes ahead, to be part of my own dealings with Lord Lannister. If I do not make that absolutely clear he will try to get favours out of me some other way, and that cannot be allowed to happen."
