Prince Aegon and his men ride south past Moat Cailin crossing into the Riverlands. They display the Targaryen colours prominently, so that they meet no opposition from those have previously allowed Rhaeny's forces through. They have met Ser Aerys Velaryon who has appraised Prince Aegon of matters pertaining to the recent events around and north of Moat Caitin
As they draw near to the main force, Aegon sends a messenger to Queen Rhaenys advising her of their arrival.

The messenger returns instructing Aegon to wait and that the queen will meet with him once she has finished her dealings with the lords Mallister, Royce and Baratheon.

Some time later, Rhaenys arrives in Aegon's camp. She's surrounded by guards.

Aegon greeted Rhaenys personally and escorted her to his command tent.

She waited until they were alone apart from her Queensguard before speaking beyond the necessary greetings.
"I am sorry for the trouble you met with earlier. I hope you ran into no further difficulties, cousin?"

Aegon poured Rhaenys a goblet of wine as well as one for himself.
"I had no further troubles cousin, especially after Aerys managed to find us. He explained the circumstances. I must admit I was relieved to hear that Karstark's actions were not instigated by yourself."

"You deserved the chance to come back to me," she said simply. "I would never have ordered a man arrested for being loyal. What Karstark did was wrong, and I shall be confronting him when I see him again. Did you know at all that Ariel was involved?"

Aegon shook his head.
"No. Ser Aerys seems to think so though. For mine it seems unlikely that Karstark would just suddenly have taken it into his head to march his forces north to confront me. And Ariel was with them. I tend to agree with Aerys. I'd say it was she who commanded or persuaded Karstark in some way."

"Yes. That is my understanding too, which means that Ariel claimed an authority she does not possess. For that she is to stand trial once we've got Kyma back safe."

"Yes. The question is why Rhaenys."
His eyes narrowed as he took a sip from his goblet.
"I think I know why, but I'll leave that for you to determine in any trial."

She hadn't touched her wine but now she did so, taking a long mouthful before speakign.
"No," she said, "Tell me what you think, Aegon, then I will tell you what Ariel told me."

Aegon gave a short bark of laughter.
"No doubt Ariel told you that she was merely following orders...fulfilling your decree?"
He took another swig of wine...swirling it around in his mouth before swallowing.
"She sees me as a rival. It would be convenient would it not? Either I'm arrested as an outlaw and imprisoned or conveniently disposed of by 'resisting arrest'. Either way...Ariel gets what she wants and she can claim to you that she was merely following orders. And with 2,000 men at her beck and call she can hardly fail...especially once I'm in her hands."
Aegon grimaced.
"Luckily didn't succeed this time. Makes you wonder what she's really up to though."
