Rhaenys gritted her teeth, not trusting herself to speak straight away. Ariel coud argue like a lawyer.
"I did, but he set off in good time, and Karstark still acted in haste, and in error. I believe my decree made it plain that I would make the announcement in person if it were necessary to name Aegon an outlaw, yet I did not actually do so."

Ariel shook her head. "The decree did not make that plain," she responded. "Instead, it seemed quite clear that at any point after that time, if Aegon had not returned, he was to be arrested. And it wasn't apparent that he was coming to rejoin us."
"So how do we clear up the confusion and get Karstark back in our ranks?"

The force under Rhaenys drew closer, the two Queensguard in attendance moving close to the queen with looks of reproach that she'd gone ahead of the,.
"You will do nothing," Rhaenys said. "It's plain to me that you had some influence over Karstark in this matter, therefore, since he, and you, acted without my consent, I must place you under arrest. Jeyne, Bryan, flank her."
When the two Queensguard had done as she said "Now, you can get down like a lady or I can have Maekar drag you off your horse. What will it be?"

Ariel leapt off, looking directly at Rhaenys. "Frankly, I'd have liked to see him try. Do you mean, then, for Maekar to stand as your champion?"

"I don't," Rhaenys confirmed. "Iv'e not even considered the matter yet. Jeyne, Bryan, keep a close guard on Ariel, and tie her hands. Put her upon the horse and tie her so she cannot escape. Jeyne, you'll lead the horse Ser Jess, go after Lord Karstark. The man must be found. And if you see Aegon, tell him to come to me with all speed."

Dunn nodded, and rode off whistling for his men to follow him. He left twenty to help the Queen's guard escort Ariel back.

Aerys studied Ariel with some contempt.
"Your Grace. As you know, Prince Aegon would have been here within the month had he not been forced to withdraw from of what looked like a very large hostile force. This lady here...." he indicated Ariel, ".....somehow knew Aegon was moving south to join you too. She obviously has somehow influenced Karstark to intercept Aegon with the intent of destroying the Prince and his force. Aegon's 'accidental' death would no doubt have put down as 'resisting arrest'."

"Probably," Rhaenys murmured. "It is clear that she knows all about this, anyway. We shall take her back with us. Let's ride!"
She waited only long enough for Ariel to be bound and then secured to her horse then they rode back to camp.

Shah kept an eye out for their return and was shocked to see Princess Ariel bound like a prisoner. She held a hand to her neck. "What's going on?" She said to Rekhmire, who stood vigilant next to her. "Let's follow them."

She waited only long enough for Ariel to be bound and then secured to her horse then they rode back to camp. As Ariel was bound, Aerys said. "Your Grace, I do have some inkling where the Prince's forces may have withdrawn to. I would ask that I take a couple of men to find and inform Prince Aegon of matters here. If I assure him that there is no treachery then he will join you at once."

She gave Aerys a brief scrutiny and decided that he was honest.
"Very well, you may do as you suggest. Tell Ser Aegon that I mean to keep my word so long as he keeps his. You can also tell him that I look forward to peace between us once more."
