Liliyana wore thick woolens, and was cleaning her hands thoroughly in a wash bowl as he approached. She did not notice him approaching until he was atop of her. She spilled the bowl, and almost fell over.

He hurried to steady her by dint of catching her elbow.
"My apologies, cousin," Maekar said softly. "I did not mean to startle you."
His eyes were soft as they looked on her, softer in fact than most men would believe possible.
"I came to see how you are. We've not had much time to talk since the great battle. I've had to be with Rhaenys most all the time. Are you well, Liliyana?"

LIliyana nodded, and wiped at her brow, "Just tired Maekar, very tired. Ella wakes every morning so scared, and Rhod is still in pain."

He;d never had as much to do with the dragons as his cousins, treating them more with respect than love, yet he knew the sisters loved them dearly, especieally the elder two, so he was sympathetic.
"Poor creatures. Do you have enough help? I could ask Rhaenys to get you some assistance if you need someone to share the burden."

Liliyana shook her head and snorted, "These fools are tremble to be near them. I will not allow them to touch them."

He smiled at her. She is so beautiful, so graceful.. He'd never told her how he felt, though. A bastard could not dream of a trueborn princess.
"No-one who is not of the blood, hmm?" Maekar said. "Is there anything I can do to help, then?"

Liliyanna sighed and collapsed into her chair, resting her hands on her head she said slowly, "There is nothing to be done. Only time can make them accept their new limits."

"Yes...About that..."
Maekar looked uncomfortable. It pained him to see the dragons brought low even though he had less emotional attachment to them than Liliyana or her sisters.
"They've managed well so far, considering how far we've come, but what are the long term effects likely to be? How much will be be able to rely on them?"

Liliyana stiffened slighty, "Why? What is she planning?"

"Nothing specific, as yet, but it may be important later."
Maekar sighed.
"And why assume I came on behalf of Rhaenys? I do have a mind of my own, Liliyana. Am I not allowed to be curious about the fate of our noble beasts?"

Liliyanna shook her head, "You are hers Maekar. Do not try and hide it from me. What did she do now?" He hands wrung her dresses sleeve and she bit her lower lip.

"Nothing, truly," he said, struggling to keep the irritation out of his voice. "Yes, I am sworn to Rhaenys but that doesn't mean I think of nothing but her. I care for you as well, Liliyana. Why shouldn't I come talk to you when I have a moment to spare?"

Liliyanna leaned back and stared at him, "Stop mincing words. Did you come to just ask about the dragons? Or was it my sister?"
