Dyther empties his pipe and puts it back in a pocket. "My lord."

"Lets go back to Selwyn." He raised his arm.

Lannister hobbled toward Selwyn and opened his mouth when the Lord Hand just shook his head. "The answer is no."
Lannister laughed, "Paramount of Riverlands and North."
Selwyn sneered, "Go back and say they can have half of that."
Lannister lifted back his head and laughed uproariously.

Dyther looked back across the field. Annoying walk. These negotiations could mean he'd be walking across it plenty.

Tyberion turned and limped back across, and returned an hour later. "If they are to be given only one realm, Frey would like the Riverlands. Reed will just be satisfied with his son marrying Lady Stark."

Rhaenys looked from Tyberion to Selwyn and back again. She didn't like the idea one bit and the girl's possible objection wasn't the only reason.
"No, that won't do. Giving Frey the Riverlands grants him the rights over all the people and lands of that region but, in the long run, a marriage of a Reed to young Lady Stark gives House Reed the chance to influence the ruling of the North. Imagine, if Lady Stark were to die in childbirth - or worse - her kin would be well placed to assume the protectorship in place of her child, or else to force the younger girl into a marriage. Tell them they can have either the Riverlands or the Stark marriage, not both."

Tyberion hobbles to the keep, and then hobbles back.
"Frey has accepted, but Reed would like to counter with this offer. A marriage alliance either with the second Stark Daughter, or with one of your Bastard brothers, or close supporters."

She knew she could never allow a Reed to marry a Stark, even a younger one, in case they attempted to harm Lady Beatrice, but fortunately they had given her other options. She knew immediately what to do there and turned to Tyberion with a confident expression on her face.
"Tell them I will consent to the marriage of a Reed girl to my cousin, Ser Maekar Blackfyre. He is the Queen's Justice and one of my closest followers."

Queen Rhaenys summons Ariel to her side. She wanted her cousoin's viewpoint on the way the negotiations had progressed so far.

Ariel arrived at the negotiation tent almost immediately after receiving the message. "You have need of my presence, Your Grace?"

"I do," Rhaenys murmured, giving Ariel a smile.
She wanted to put Ariel's mind to the test, see just how useful she really could be.
"We are in the middle of negotiations with the Freys and Reeds regarding passage south. We need to pass, Ariel, as you know. Hover, the Freys have always been greedy and overfond of tolls and the Reeds seem to have taken a leaf out of their book. Strange, when they were once bitter foes, but such is life."
Rhaenys shrugged, feigning unconcern.
"They first wished me to grant them the titles of Lord Paramount for their respective regions. Naturally I could not concede. The Reeds say they would be content with a marriage between one of their own to the Stark heir. I could not grant that either, since it would allow them too much influence while Lady Beatrice is so young. Besides, a Stark heir of Reed blood is something I wish to avoid. You can see the danger to us, I'm sure. The Reeds said they would accept a marriage to the youngest Stark girl, or one of any Stark marriage at all but I have offered my cousin Maekar as husband to a Reed girl. He won't be best pleased but I do trust him to keep the chit on a short leash and he'd never allow hiimself to be influenced by her kin. What do you think?"
She paused, took in a deep breath.
"And what is your opinion of the Riverlands? I certainly don't want to give the region to House Frey but Lord Tully informed me at Winterfell that he'd heard nothing of Mallister or his kin. They're likely all dead,. I'd sooner give the Riverlands to Lord Tully, who would serve me far better than any Frey ever could, but I must have Moat Cailin, else we're all doomed. That being so, I fear I must name Lord Frey as successor to the missing Lord Mallister."

Tyberion smiled, "I will tell them then." He bowed and began to walk away.

"No. Wait!" Rhaenys cried. "My lord, I did not tell you to go yet. I would have you wait a moment. Princess Ariel has not yet given me her counsel. It may be that he has some new ideas that will be worth hearing. But first, tell me, what do you know of this Reed girl that I would wed to Ser Maekar?"

Tyberion spoke slowly, "He has two daughters, Osha and Myrrah. They are twenty and nineteen I believe, but I can not remember which is which. " He smiled at the queen warmly.
