"No!" Euric shouts, riding his horse so it is in the way and lifting his hands. "Stop this madness!!!"

They both pull up short rather then run Euric down. One growls, "Get this farce over with, he is ours."
The reachmen separate from the Northmen into their own band.

"It appears," Rask says to Euric, his tone low and gravelly, "That you do not come in pursuit of justice, but in vengeance for an imagined sin."

"I have come with orders to question you." Euric replied. "Those men," He said, pointing at the reachmen "were not ordered to come with me, but decided to join. Now, are you telling me you are innocent?"

"I did not kill your Tarly," Rask says, "But I do not mourn his death. What is your name?"

"I am Ser Euric Dayne, a man who doesn't quite believe you yet." He nods in the general direction of the assassination site. "We found wildling arrows back there."

Rask raises an eyebrow. "I do not know where 'back there' is. And I do not know the difference between the arrow of a free folk and that of any other man."

"We don't use bone or bronze, for one." He looked at the bread in his hand and back to Rask. "I can't imagine that the late lord Tarly was well liked among the wildlings."

Rask shrugs. "Bone and bronze are common materials, Euric Dayne. I am sure there are men among my band who use them. And those among the other bands of free folk as well, and I am sure plenty of your northman too."
He grunts. "No one liked Tarly. As I said, I will not mourn him. But I did not kill him."

"If you say so." Euric replied, turning back towards his men. "Northmen to me, we're heading back. You reachmen would be best advised to come with us." He tossed the bread to the ground and rode off.

The Reachmen do not leave.

"That meant get the hell back with us!" Euric shouted from behind a few trees.

Rask grins, something wide and feral that does not quite seem to fit a man's impending death. "I will consider this my trial by combat, Euric Dayne."
He waits until Dayne and the northmen leave, then shouts, "Loose!"
Wildlings hidden around the lip of the gulley move forward from the treeline and fire down upon the Reachmen. Rask scrambles up the slope behind him to join them.

Rask and his wildlings howl in victory as their enemy is driven from the field of battle. Rask looks around the gulley. Only two wildlings lie dead, amidst the corpses of more than three dozen southrons. The wildlings begin to strip the bodies of valuables, while the raven flaps down to feast.
