This road leads into the great fortress of winterfell, and the Army of Ever Night is camped along it, under the walls of the castle.

As the Queen's men are heading into the castle, escorting Lord Warren Marbrand, they are intercepted by fifty armed and armored reachmen, led by Ser Petyr Redwyne. He bows to Ser Maekar Blackfyre who was escorting the Master of Whisperers, and spoke in a soft urgent voice. "Ser, this man has conspired with Wildlings to murder Lord Simon outside winterfell; those barbarian scum have killed the two most important lords of the Reach and this fucking traitor has helped them do it. Respectfully, I ask that you turn him over to us so we can seek the justice that is our due under Westerosi Law."

Maekar raised an eyebrow.
"I hear there's rough justice in the Reach for traitors. The queen won't be best pleased if she hears that Marbrand has not been locked in a cell like she ordered. Still..."
He lowered his voice to a whisper.
"I cannot suffer any man who has betrayed Her Grace to go unscathed. What would you do with him?"

Petyr stood and looked at Marbrand harshly for a moment. Then he turned and looked Maekar in the eye. "I would have his tongue for his treachery, and his fingers in retribution for the foul letter with which he lured Lord Simon to his death. We will bind the wounds, and you can escort him to the cells where we will send a maester to further treat the wounds."

A man walked from the gates of Winterfell, "What goes on here?"

Petyr looked confused for a minute, and turned to the Winterfel guard. "I suppose I was too overzealous in my hunt. Men, back to the camp!" The reachmen turned and began marching back to their camp, save for Petyr and six other men, who remained in an arc around Marbrand.

Petyr turned back to Maekar. "Since he must be tried, can I take just his fingers? Leave him his tongue for the trial, and his thumbs as a memento."

"We're taking Marbrand to the cells. He's been accused of treason," Maekar told the guard.
He leaned close to Redwyne and whispered "Do nothing out here in the open. That would be foolish. Perhaps in the cells...I haven't decided yet."

"Very well, I shall trust your word, Ser." Petyr turned around and fell into step behind Maekar, while the remaining six Reachmen headed back toward their camp. Petyr turned to the Winterfel guard, and spoke again. "That is Warren Marbrand, formerly the Master of Whisperers, who is a murderer and a traitor to her grace the queen's cause."

The Guard followed them in, and when they reached the gates he told another man, "Go tell Tyberion they are going to remove a Marbrand's fingers in the cells."
That guard paled and sprinted off.

Petyr frowned, and looked at Maekar. "Would you truly deny us justice? He's going to escape as soon as you lock him up, I hope you know that."

Maekar looked sternly at the guard.
"I have not given permission yet."
He turned to Petyr as they started for the cells.
"I do not wish you to be denied justice, but Lord Lannister will complain if you take the man's fingers and the Queen has enough to contend with. It's bad enough that she betrothed her sister to Lannster's heir and Kyma ran off rather than do her duty. Can you not think of some other way to punish him?"

"Damn your queen, and damn you all," Petyr said, and turned to walk back to the reach camp wihtout a look back.

Warren was locked up in the cells. stripped of anything he could use to pass a message, or to kill himself. Maekar set a guard of the most loyal men and ordered that only a member of of the queen's personal household was to bring Warren food.
