Warren handed it over promptly. It was, as the cover indicated, a book on strategy for the intermediate cyvasse player, including handy starting moves, advanced counters, and tricks for slipping out of dangerous spots. Warren's own handwritting filled the margins as he made notes and annotations, and in the last few blank pages it was obvious where he had drawn his own board and pieces, and attempted to play a game on paper.

Roxton examined the book for a moment, and than put it away within the folds of his clothing.
"I apologize for interrupting, Ser Euric, please continue."

"Please do take care of that, Lord Roxton," Warren asked sincerely, with a noticeable tone of worry in his voice. "It is the only copy I own, and I have a number of unreplicatable notes in there."

"I see." Euric said sounding interested. He briefly glanced at the book and back to Warren. "Are there any witnesses who might have seen you at the time of lord Tarly's murder?"

Warren canted his head. "As I do not know the specific time of Lord Tarly's death, I cannot say for certain. Before I had learned the news that day, I had been speaking with a few of my agents on business for the queen. After that, I met with a number of my soldiers to ensure their lodging at Winterfell was suitable, and then retired to my tent to play a game of cyvasse and share a drink with Ser Rolfe Spicer. In the middle of our game, which he was losing badly I will add, we were interrupted by one of my agents with the news."

"And the name of the agent who will confirm this?" Roxton asked, with a slight smile.

"You cannot ask your own? We might even share a few, unless I am mistaken." Warren exhaled sharply. "I will produce the man who brought me news of Tarly's death if the queen herself requests it, but I will not willingly endanger or weaken Her Grace's own network otherwise."

Euric made a mental note. "You say you had not spoken to lord Tarly for a while before this incident. How did it come to that? You were both members of the small council, so I am sure your paths would have crossed more frequently."

"Likely what you'll do if we let you go out and find him is cook up a story between you. Better to give us his name, so we can ask him now, before his... memory goes."

"The Queen has called very few councils in which she has requested all of us present. In fact, I think I can only recall one significant one. Aside from that, I have only ever met with Her Grace privately."

"And how was your relationship with the man?" Euric asked quickly. "Any enmity between the two of you?"

"If I hear it from the queen's lips, then I will be happy to find the man," he replied to Roxton before turning to Euric.
"With Lord Simon? I suppose it would be similar to the relationship you and I have, Lord Dayne," Warren compared. "That is to say, aside from a brief passing knowledge and polite words at social functions, little else in the way of an acquaintance."

When he heard Warren's reply Roxton only smiled knowingly.

Euric nodded and reached into his pocket and pulled out the note lord Tarly had received handing it out to Warren. "Have you seen this note before?"

"What is it?" Warren asked before the thing was even put into his hands. Upon receiving it, the Master of Whispers unfolded the parchment and read it over. After a moment, a small laugh escaped his lips.
"Oh, very mysterious. Secrecy is of great... -- honestly?" he handed the thing back to Euric. "That crude handwriting is not even remotely similar to my own. Check my book," he waved at Roxton. "Check any of the notes I've ever written to the queen. That is absurd."
