Ariel and Duncan were very glad that they were far away from the army, for if any of the camps had been in screaming distance of them, their laughing would have woken the dead there.
"He did WHAT?" asked Ariel, in between gasps of laughter. "You're telling me that Aegon pulled the Targaryen soldiers back from saving Tarly? And the Wildlings kicked Simon's ass while he was waiting for reinforcements?"
"Yeah, and that's not the worst of it. Half the lords in the army are backing up the Wildlings and calling for Simon's head. The other half are calling for the wildlings to be slaughtered. And the Queen's trying to solve it by piling everyone into a Council."
Ariel slapped her thigh. "Damn man, she's going to just start another big dick-swinging mess that'll bring the house down on her head again."
A few moments later, she sobered. "And she'll break the army, the way she's going." She sighed. "Damn her for forcing my hand. I need to save the army. Who do I have?"
Duncan sobered as well. "Not much. The Ironborn, of course. And you'd have to ask the Wildlings, but they'll be on your side if you want Tarly's blood. Marbrand also came out for the Wildlings, surprisingly enough, and Aegon-"
"Aegon is Aegon. I'm not trusting him when the shit goes down. No, we don't have the strength to launch a coup with anything resembling the strength I'd like, and we can't wait to let things break down any further or there won't be an army to save. Damn her." She shook her head. "I'll need to send a message for parley. Can you arrange it?"
Duncan grinned. "Can do!"
"So what else is news?"
"Oh, this one's good. Apparently, Kyma took off from Castle Black because she didn't want to get married to handsome Owen Lannister."
"Hah! Rhaenys can't even keep her own house in order. Find her, Duncan. She'll make a useful card if nothing else."
