The Army of Ever-Night's Vanguard force, only a hundred or so strong, begins to march south towards Whitetree and the Wall, led by Talyn Thatcher and his Traitors' Sons. Around them Tallbody's scouts are riding, alert for trouble.

Ser Brandon Tarly, riding one of the few horses left in the army, had risen early and decided to ride with the Vanguard on the march south, while his brother would lead the remaining Reachmen in the marching column. He was surprised to find sellswords leading the van, but slipped relatively easily into a conversation with some of the other soldiers who were marching up front. Bran's longbow was hanging from his horse's saddle, next to a large quiver of arrows that he had scavenged from the battlefield.

A blackmailed man was walking beside a complement of heavy infantry, and seeing the knight, broke off, and walked towards him.
"Hail. From your colors, I place you with the Reach, but I know not whom... Do you have a name Ser?"

"Bran," he said, with a grin at the man in black mail. "And good eye, my brother is the august Lord of Horn Hill," he added, with mock seriousness. He laughed, and lifted his flask from his sword belt, unscrewing the top to take a swig. The knight frowned after trying to drink, and held the flask upside-down over the snow, watching as two small drops of amber liquid dripped out.
"Bloody empty," he muttered with a frown. "What's your name, Ser?"

"Talyn Thatcher. I've command of the vanguard for the now," the man replies.

Bran frowned at the young man's surname, and tried to make no mention, but his curiosity got the better of him. "Thatcher, Thatcher? What in God's name are you doing up in this forsaken hellhole? Besides commanding our van, that is," he added grinning slightly.

"I seem to recall it involved killing Ice-demons and the walking dead." Talyn recalled, keeping pace with Ser Brandon's horse.

"Aye," Bran agreed. He slowed the horse, and swung down from the saddle to walk beside Talyn. He maintained his hold on the horse's reins, and the animal walked obediently behind the two men. "So do you have a home to go back to down south?" he asked amiably.

"Nope. I used to reside with my father, but I'm guessing I'll have to seek out other accommodations." Talyn replied.

Two riders join their company. The only distinguishable coat of arms between the two is a shield of a green dragon on black, strapped to the horse of the fairer skinned rider.

Talyn acknowledges the two new arrivals, waiting for their salute.

They give it, and the fairer greets the riders. "Hail, friends. I'm Imry Willfyre and this is Flax", he said, gesturing to the large Summer Islander to his left. "We thought we'd join your company for the time being."

"Well I imagine you're not alone in that boat. A lot of men are going to be left homeless by this war. Women as well," he added as an afterthought.

"Who assigned you to the van?" Talyn asks curiously, although he does not stop walking.

"My gods", Imry said with a wicked smile. "No one sent us, but we are attached to other section of the host. I'd prefer to leave these wastelands sooner rather than later."
