Selwyn put down the book on the table. It was titled A History of Lord Commanders 150 AC-300 AC. The scarred man looked up at Talyn, "Go ahead."

Talyn inhaled sharply, "Milord, with your permission, I'd like to advance the Vanguard as far south as Queenscrown. We can serve as relay for Tallbody's scouts as they range further from the Wall, but would still be close enough to send word back to you. Additionally, milord.. there would be less... superfluous people about. Less prying eyes. Too many of these people here are not in the army, and are of unknown loyalty. Easily infiltrated. With a relay station at Queenscrown, we can limit the exposure. I can make sure information arrives in your hands, and no others... so that you can present details to the Queen, without any... leaks."

Selwyn thought for a long moment. "I have thought on this before." His finger ran down a particularly nasty groove above his chin. "You have my leave. It will help, perhaps a little."

Talyn nodded. "The other thing milord, and this may be beyond my authority and if so I understand. But I would like to pick the men for the vanguard to help with this mission. There are loyalty and political questions which did not exist when the vanguard was simply marching north against the white walkers. If I review my lists with Ustice and Rolf, may I make the troop selections?"

Sewlyn smiled with just a slight curve of his lip, "Acceptable. But bring it to Roxton or Musgood."

"Yes milord. Thank you." Talyn gave a slight bow, "Is the book good, milord?"

Selwyn looked up at him, "I can barely comprehend the words."

"The maester who wrote it was paid by the word, I'd gather. Have a good evening, milord." Talyn says with a smile, "If I have your leave."
Assuming he does, he backs away, and begins his work.

///////////////////////// Talyn Thatcher waited outside of Lord Selwyn's office to brief him on the most recent scouting reports.

"Good morning milord. Report from the scouts came in, and I thought you'd want to hear it right away. Squire Tallbody reports that that Winterfell's gates are unbarred and open, and that small folk are about outside the walls. A lion and wolf banner fly from the walls. Meanwhile Last Hearth is held by loyalists, they are coming directly to meet with her grace." Talyn says quickly. "We also have reports that Moat Cailin is held by Reed and possibly Frey men."

Selwyn listened intently and then turned to Roxton, "A lion in Winterfell. And Frey and Reed together."
Roxton listened and slowly nodded to himself. The Lord turned to look at Thatcher, "What do you make of it Ser?"

"It seems somewhat odd to me, i'll admit," Talyn says, "The Frey and the Reed have no love for each other, never have. And the Lannisters and Starks the same. Either this war has made strange bed-fellows, or something odd is going on."

"Or both." Roxton replied.
Selwyn looked up, "We will start moving. In the next day or two. Return to the van and proceed to Winterfell."
