"Alysanne proposed one of her men so that's one, if he accepts. Otherwise, I'll most like name Jeyne. Some may not care to have a woman into the Queensguard but Jeyne is my own sworn woman and I want someone of my own. Maekar and Talyn won't do, because they love women too well, and I may need Maekar to make a marriage contact later on. Have you someone in mind?"

"A woman on the Queens Guard? I do believe this may have never happened before, though I don't care much for the history of the royal guard." Euric turned to study the tent for a moment, looking deep in thought. "You'll want a man with no family, no wife, nothing... although I suspect every man left in this army would qualify if that were the terms."

"Perhaps you're right, but many of them will be looking to take possession of their family's lands and castles. It takes a certain calibre of man to be happy with a life of chastity and obedience. The other reason I have chosen Jeyne is because, being a woman, she can be with me when a man cannot."
She paused, thought, then spoke again.
"Let's be honest with one another. You sound like you are considering someone, Euric. Pray tell me who."

"As a matter of fact I am not, your grace." Euric replied with a chuckle. "None of my friends could possibly face such responsibility and I myself am of course very disinclined. I will however keep a look out for able men." He quirked. "And women."

"Thank you, but you needn't look for women specifically. One female Queensguard will suffice. I don't want to upset the apple cart too much!" Rhaenys said with a slight laugh.

Euric laughed. "Well, perhaps an all girl Queensguard wouldn't be so bad. The kingdom's ladies have had centuries to stare at valiant knights in white; now it is our turn." He winked at her and grinned.

Rhaenys laughed.
"Yes, but then I would have no-one to admire, and shouldn't my wishes come first? I will allow two female Queensguard if another is deemed worthy but no more than that. However, if we find more than that, I will gladly take such women into service to guard myself and my sisters. We've Borcas Redwyne and the Dothraki too though, I must not forget them. Euric, regardless what happens with Alysanne, I know you to be a loyal man. Will you accept a post in my household, once I have a proper seat of my own?"

"My own room at the Red Keep, for me to use whenever I come to visit? Free access to the council chambers? Why, your grace, I'd be delighted." He laughed again and made a little seated bow. "You'll have to learn to ignore the rabble that tags along with me; they're a great bunch but you simply can't stop them from acting overly conspicuous."

"They will have to learn better in future," she said. "Ser Euric, can you do unpleasant things in the name of duty? Can you kill a man in cold blood if your queen commands it, and harden your heart to weeping women and children if the need arises?"

"An obscure sort of question, Rhaenys, but I'll assure you that there isn't a man, woman or child I can't kill." He grins and shows his pearly white teeth. "Why do you ask?"

"Because I would make you Queen's Justice," she said simply. "If you will accept."

"Hmm... two rooms for me at the Red Keep." His grin widened. "I'll be glad to make your traitors a head short, your grace."

"Good. Right, we shall go and speak with Horas Martell. I need to speak to him of Liliyana anyway, and you can put your case forward for Starfall with my backing."

He was on his feet in an instant. "Let us go then." He said, holding the tent flap open for her.
