Today Maekar was the guard and he looked upon Euric with slightly more warmth than he usually gave to those who weren't family.
"Her Grace has commanded that all who see her are questioned before they are admitted to her presence, saving only her own kin," he said. "But I know Rhaenys, she'll make an exception for yo, Ser Euric. You're as good as family."
He ushered Euric into the tent.
"Ser Euric Dayne to see you, cousin."
Rhaenys smiled at them both.
"Thank you, Maekar. Ser Euric, how do you fare?"

Euric nodded with a pleasant smile on his face. "Very well; I have just had an amusing conversation with a man who is rather disinclined to see you on the throne." He searched for a seat and finding one, sat. "I suspect things have been rather hectic on for you?"

Rhaenys frowned at his relevation. Who else stands in my way?
"Yes, very. Be thankful you don't stand in my place, Euric. It's even harder than I thought it would be. I knew I would have enemies but it's most vexing having to deal with them. Who is this man who does not care for my rule?"

"I have no idea, though he can be of no note." Euric replies. "Rhaenys, you said something the other day that made me think... as you know, I am of house Dayne, the only member by name. Starfall, as you might know, is the ancient seat of my house..."

"I know that well, and I thought you might mention it one day. If Starfall still stands, it shall be yours, as is your birthright."

Euric's expression didn't change but he nodded again. "I thank you for that. Perhaps Prince Martell should be consulted though. He knows more about what is happening in Dorne than anyone else."

Rhaenys was inclined to agree. She didn't want to offend the prince of Dorne.
"By all means," she said. "You and I shall speak with him together and present your case. House Martell will soon be joined in marriage to House Targaryen, as Liliyana is to wed Horas' son. That will help. It may also help that you have such close ties with House Targaryen yourself. In fact... we might make those ties closer, if you are willing."

"Kyma or Alysanne?" Euric asked, his smile widening just the tiniest bit.

"ALysanne, of course. She's the one you have the closest relationship with."
She couldn't resist teasing him a bit though, there were few people she could be familiar with.
"You hold no hopes of wedding your queen, Euric?"

"Of course not, Rhaenys. What sort of an alliance would a lone knight with a sword be?" He laughed. "Though of course once the talk of marriage blooms Alysanne will have plenty of suitors."

"She will, but I think she will look more kindly upon an old friend than a stranger. She wasn't willing to even consider Selwyn or Martyne Martell, both of whom Mother wished us to ally with. Will you take her, if she wants you?"

"I cannot tell a lady no, especially not a princess." Euric answered, his smile still present. "But if she does not insist, or sound appealed by the prospect of a marriage to me then I will not press the matter."

She gave him a long, thoughtful look.
"Well and good, Ser Euric. I have faith that you would make Alysanne a good husband but I would not press her into a marriage she does not want. I don't know what I would have done if Liliyanna had not been willing to marry Martyne Martell. You may as well know that I am going to marry Selwyn myself, in order to make sure no man tries to persuade him to go against me, and because his military skills will be much needed."

"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, of course." Euric replied with a laugh. "Have you decided on your Queensguard yet? Surely you must have some people in mind."
