I need a list of surviving Northern Lords and their approximate troop strengths.
So if you guys can work out a list that would be great. I want the North to be at around fifty percent of population, but I think more then half of the families would have survived.
Other then that no real feeling about which particular Northern lords survived.

Would I be right in thinking the Lords are the members of the population least likely to die? The cult didn't have much sway up north did they? If so I'd imagine very few have actually died.

Lots of Lords would have died in Battles. The North has been fighting the Others longest.

So like, 10-20% of Lords killed do you think?
Here's the list of families who should actually be considered in charge of troops - I've removed small knightly families who don't really contribute.
Lordly Houses of The North House Bolton of the Dreadfort House Cerwyn of Cerwyn Castle House Dustin of Barrowton House Flint of Flint's Finger House Flint of Widow's Watch House Hornwood of Hornwood House Ironsmith of Bear Island House Karstark of Karhold House Locke of Oldcastle House Manderly of White Harbor House Reed of Greywater Watch and Moat Cailin House Ryswell of the Rills House Stark of Winterfell House Umber of Last Hearth
Major Knightly Houses House Tallhart of Torrhen's Square House Glover of Deepwood Motte
The Mountain Clans House Burley House Harclay House Knott House Liddle House Norrey House Wull
On Skagos House Magnar of Kingshouse House Stane of Deepdown House Stane of Driftwood Hall

Maybe as high as thirty.

So are you saying that around 30% of those families are wiped out completely or just lacking a Lord? Presumably there will still be female heirs and children in some of them.

I think that the further north a family's castle is, the greater likelihood that they were wiped out completely. For example I think the Umbers should just be gone, since they're the first castle that the Others would have attacked after crossing the Wall.
For houses that are just extinct, what do you say to Stark, Umber, and Norrey, and then we can say that like Glover, Liddle, Locke, and Ryswell, Manderly, and Hornwood have been left lordless?

I guess the thing with the mountain clans is it's kinda hard to wipe them all out because I'd imagine they're quite wide-spread families. I think we probably shouldn't bother saying that any of them have been wiped out, as they're not of that high a consequence and it might just create complications months down the line if someone starts reffering to one of their members. Would it not be easier just to say that 'the mountain clans have been decimated'?
I agree that Umber would be hard hit, and extinction is probably the way to go. Stark though? That's a big decision.
Lordly deaths for those others are fine as far as I can see.

Well Stark has been a small house to begin with, and it was never really made clear what happened to them after Gariss Stark was executed by Rodrick. I know that he put Kijo Sand in charge of Winterfell, and I feel like Garriss might have had some children, but do we even know if House Stark is still in charge?

Looks good.
Lets not killed the Starks. Just leave them with only children left. Karstark took reign after the first batch of Starks were massacred in the war.
