The snow covered his cloak as he walked on the small hill under which the remaining Vale force was gathered. The long winter was out, but here, beyond the Wall in the far North, winter was always somewhere, waiting to jump out in the form of a blizzard or a wind that everyone can feel in the bones. When he came up on the hill, Jaime looked down on the Valemen. It was his destiny to do this. He was their legend, the Eagle, they called him for he came down on the Others and their blackhanded wights as if he was a bird of prey. He stood on the hill with his four companions, all waiting to see how he will handle what they all planned together.
The four were, of course, Maester Perestan, Anne Snow, Bennis Baelish and Motho. Perestan wore a grey robe and his maesterly chain. He leaned on the staff in his left and tucked in his belt was the obsidian candle whose magic Jaime still couldn't fully understand. Bennis was, as always, quite well dressed in a Braavosi fashion. His hand rested on his Braavosi sword. Anne Snow was dressed in a leather tunic with some remains of chainmail still on her. However, Motho's appearance showed his wild nature and origin. He was dressed in the fur of a direwolf he cought a couple of days ago. His axe, that he could hold with one hand and all other men and women needed two, was on his back.
The men of the Vale waited for their Eagle to speak in complete silence. Jaime took his usual position for speeches and his voice boomed between the hills. "Men of the Vale, I, Lord Jaime Corbray, greet you all and thank you for coming here to listen to what I have to say." Everyone shouted out Jaime's various new names, none of them negative. He raised a hand to silence them "We have all survived this apocalypse and came through the winter victorious! We all fought bravely, as it is proper for men and women of the Vale. We are of the sky and stone and not even the magic of the Others could touch us. However, the peril is not over." Whispers were heard throughout the crowd. "We have to return home now, miles and miles away from where we are now. Do not expect to find the Vale the same as we left it. The Cult of the Dead God probably managed to scar our homes as well as others. We will, however, prevail, as we did so many times by now."
He took a breath as murmurs of agreement went through the crowd. "Fire and Blood saved us. Let Fire and Blood lead us. Men of the Vale, I have decided for myself and my men to kneel to Queen Rhaenys Targaryen, firstborn child of Queen Saella and the rightful queen of the seven kingdoms. She is the blood of dragons and she is the only one that can save us all. When Becawyr the Great fell from the skies and crushed Queen Saella, Rhaenys Targaryen rose Blackfyre high in the air and charged at the Others." Everyone in the crowd was nodding, though some looked uncertain "I fought with you all. You saw me take this sword" He unsheathed Lady Forlorn and pointed it at the skies "and crush the Other that killed my father. I lead your charge. Let me lead you through our return. The Eagle, you call me. A bird of prey, or maybe guidance. It could be a sign, but I know nothing of that shit. I know only people and I know steel and I am certain we can come back to the Vale and rebuild it! We are of the sky and stone and we will prevail!" He shouted the last three words and waved Lady Forlorn. Everyone in the crowd unsheathed his or her own sword and pointed it at the sky as well. They all shouted out his name and the name of the Targaryen heiress. The Eagle and the Dragon will lead them home.
