An open patch halfway between the walls of Driftmark and the invading army.
Two men ahorse wait for the crown's representative. One bears the standard of House Barclay.

Two men ride out swiftly from the King's forces. Both are resplendent in sea green and white livery. One is bearing a large sea green banner emblazoned with a white seahorse.
As they draw near to the two men waiting for them, they slow. While the man carrying the banner drops behind, the other trots forward a few paces before halting. He removes his helmet and begins to speak.
"I am Lord Monterys of House Velaryon, rightful Master of Driftmark, come to treat with the castellan of Lord Barclay."

"Then you should know better than any that this keep will bleed your army well should you try to take it." The castellan wears leather and mail, a grey cloak draped around his shoulders. "Ser Mathis of Driftmark," He introduces himself. "Castellan of this keep."

Monterys smiled thinly.
"That may be Ser Mathis. But take it we shall and we have to do it by force, for certes you and your men will die.
"However it would grieve me to have to hurt my own people. As the rightful and true Lord of Driftmark, I come here today to offer you terms."

"Let's hear them," the castellan says.

Monterys unrolled a short scroll and began to read.
"One. The people and garrison of Driftmark will lay down their arms and peacefully surrender Driftmark keep to King Rodrick's forces. "Two. The garrison and people of Driftmark will acknowledge Lord Monterys Velaryon and the legitimate heirs of his House and his body as the rightful and true Lords of Driftmark, renouncing any such allegiance to the traitor Lyreon Barclay and any heirs of his body or any heirs of his House.
In return the King will receive the members of the garrison of Driftmark back into the King's peace and within the King's law. All members of the Driftmark garrison who swear allegiance to the King as rightful King of Westeros and also to his servant Lord Monterys Velaryon as rightful Lord of Driftmark, will be spared punishment of any type - corporal, incarceration or capital - a concession which will also apply to their immediate families."
Monterys rolled up the scroll.
"I am sure you agree these terms are generous Ser Mathis. Moreover as a further personal concession, I am prepared to offer you a place as part of my contingent of household knights, upon your public renouncement of Lyreon Barclay and your public acceptance of myself as your liege lord."

Ser Mathis chews on the inside of his cheek for a moment. "Aye, I think those terms are acceptable, m'lord," he finally replies. "We'll lay down our arms. Some of Barclay's strongest supporters and his family left the island a few months back, if you hadn't yet heard. I think the rest of us will be happy to see the Velaryons again."

The Velaryon nodded his head in satisfaction at Ser Mathis' agreement
"Then Ser, here's my hand on our agreement. I leave you to make the arrangements for the garrison and I shall do the same for the King's forces."
The two men clasped hands briefly. Monterys wheeled his horse and began trotting back to where the King's forces waited. He turned briefly, as he realised he had forgotten one small, but important detail.
"One small matter Ser Mathis!" he called. "The timing?" Shall we say the laying down of arms and the peaceful opening of Driftmark's gates to the Kings forces to take place in three days?"

"If you wish, m'lord, though I see no reason for delay," the knight says.
