Baldwin and Lyn stood in the training yard of the Red Keep, where they came quite often lately, to practice with their swords and learn about ambushes. They were preparing for the war with Barclay, the traitor to Rodrick. They both planned to show their loyalty in any way they can, so Baldwin offered to donate money and they both offered to fight in the battle.
Lyn held his sword high and stroke first, swinging towards Baldwin’s left hip. Baldwin quickly parried, but Lyn then went for his right hip, before quickly turning to the left again. Baldwin was confused, but parried clumsily. Lyn continued hitting, moving targets on Baldwin’s body so swiftly that the Lefford boy couldn’t follow his movement.
Lyn was obviously better, until Baldwin took the lead. As Lyn was going for Baldwin’s head, Baldwin crouched and hit Lyn’s legs. The old knight went a few steps back before continuing his attacks. Baldwin now got the rhythm and he parried nearly every blow Lyn tried to land. He was doing very good until Lyn got bored and hit his opponent’s sword with so much strength that Baldwin fell to the floor.
”This was a fine duel, my lord.” Lyn grinned and offered his hand to Baldwin. Baldwin took it and got up.
“Indeed it was, though I don’t like swords and battles that much.”
“My lord, I need to speak to you about a few ideas I had for this war we will fight with Barclay. I would like to tell them to you in private, so I suggest we go back to the Bluebeard.”
”If you think that is necessary.” Baldwin gave his blunted sword to his servant and then walked back to the Bluebeard with Lyn

“My lord, the plan I mentioned before was planting spies in Driftmark castle so that they could try to open the gates to our army when it arrives at the walls.” Lyn explained to Baldwin when they were inside his room in the Bluebeard
”Well, you can always try. I will have to prepare quite a bit of money to finance this thing. I don’t think the money that we are making from all the King’s Landing trade for now will be enough. Before you go to tell your spies to do your plan, go to Denyo and tell him that I need more steel imported. No spices nothing else but steel. Also buy a few more smithies, we only have one in King’s Landing. I want Denyo to bring imported metals to my smiths so they can produce more weapons. Do you have any merchant friends?”
“I do. Back when I lived in Lannisport, there was a man that took care of all my business. Doran, he was called. He is in Lannisport right now and I will send for him, if you want me to.” Lyn shrugged his shoulders
“You don’t have to send for him. Just tell him that lord Baldwin Lefford wants him to work in his service.” Baldwin took a piece of parchment and wrote something for a few seconds “This is the same offer I gave to Denyo. Deliver this to him and tell him to send all his shipments in here.”
”As you say my lord. Shall I go for my business now?” asked Lyn
”Yes, do as you will.” Baldwin waved his hand dismissively, so Lyn bowed and left the room.

Lyn sat in a large room with around twenty people inside it. It was an old, abandoned warehouse, so Lyn used it to give orders to his spies. He never used the main entrance to get in there.
“Listen to me, all of you.” Lyn raised his arm “I want you to infiltrate Driftmark, all of you. Some of you will dress as commoners and ask to work as servants, some as guards and some will simply hide within the walls.”
”Why do we do that?” Asked a man from behind
”So that you can try to open the gates for our army to enter the castle. When you see king Rodrick’s army you will run to the gates and pretend that you are simply looking at the army. Then you will all try to push as much men as you can from the walls, so that one of you can open the gates.” Lyn explained
”How much payment will we get?” asked one of the informers. Lyn told them and needless to say, they accepted.
