"That's the intention, anyway. Mallister's called for volunteers to help retake it from Barclay, and I could use a little sport. Hopefully it will help to get me back into the King's good graces." "I think it's I who will be the one to put this Lord Barclay in his place," a strong voice rings out loudly. "It's that man who holds what's rightfully mine." Young Jeremiel walks up, standing tall and broad. He already had a beard growing in, with short stubble.

Archibald scans the board. "Are you sure you don't mean check mate dear?" He says, even though there are still several foot soldiers who could be used to block the septon. "I'm not sure my little subjects will be willing to sacrifice themselves for such a poor sovereign as I make." He tipped over the king symbolically.
"Well played Lady Blair. You are a very bright girl indeed."

"They are indeed. Shall we play a mind game of our own devising?" He says with a grin of almost childish mischievousness.

Archibald tugged his greybeard slightly. "Behind me, in the dress the color of a Dornish blood orange, is Lady Jane Byrch. Her husband Ser Horace Byrch is over there," Archibald pointed with his eyes, "talking with Lady Esmeralla Brune, with whom, it is widely whispered, he is having an affair. If Ser Horace is our foot soldier, do you think he would sacrifice himself for Lady Jane, or Lady Esmeralla? Assuming he needed to choose?"

Archibald smiled, before producing a small note from his pocket, carefully and crisply folded, and put it in Blair's hand.
"Would you be prepared to put a small wager on that? Let us say... five stags? Just to make it... interesting?" He had a smile like someone's gentle grandfather, and his eyes tinkled as he placed the note on the table between them.

"Of course not, it's not for you. It's for him." Archibald said, nodding his head towards a brooding man in ringmail, with a cup of ale in his hand. "That's Lady Esmeralla's husband Ser Burke. You hand him that note when I signal you like so." Archibald tapped on the solid stone once with his cane.

"I will tell him nothing of the kind." Archibald said. "And don't read the note. Your expectations would sully the experiment." He said, in a stern maester's voice.

Archibald nodded approvingly as she moved towards Ser Burke, than turned his attention towards Lady Jane, where a young page was handing the woman a letter. The Lady's eyes widen, and tears began to fall as she clutched her skirts and made her way towards the exit.
Archibald tapped his cane.

"It is for you to admire Your Grace," Leanna said with a wicked smile. "Everything in the realm is yours if you set your mind to it." She whispered. "Of that there was no doubt, my little plumb." Rodrick glanced over his shoulder, "Perhaps we should move a bit further from the lights before settling down though." He looked at her grinning.

Lady Leanna pouted, "Is your grace ashamed to be seen with someone unfit as I?" eyelashes fluttering.

Blair saw his signal and as she passed Ser Burke, she slipped the note into his hand and disappeared in the press of people. She turned to watch. Ser Burke scanned the note quickly, and than stood straight as an arrow, his chair tumbling over behind him. Ser Horace was half way to the distance to his stricken wife when Burke slapped Lady Esmeralla hard across the cheek. Horace looked at his wife, than at Esmeralla, and turned back. "You Blackguard!" Ser Horace cried, snatching Ser Burke's wrist. "You wish to strike someone, strike a man!" Burke turned, "Stay out of things that aren't your affair Byrch or by god I'll spit you like a pig." "Say that with steel in your grip ser!" Horace replied. Burke glared evilly. "Dawn... the training yard! With a blade." The ring mailed knight of House Brune turned, and left the hall, leaving Ser Horace with his wife.

Loren Irwyn, arrives at the party a bit late. He is dressed plainly as he has been since the trial of the Seven. He bows his head to the King and his company and then moves to get a non alcoholic drink, a difficult task given Rodrick's tendency for the booze.

Lady Leanna pouted, "Is your grace ashamed to be seen with someone unfit as I?" eyelashes fluttering. Rodrick laughed, and looked at her again, "How are you unfit... you look fit enough to me." He paused examining her again, "And I have no idea what your name is so it can not be that."

she leaned in, and spoke as softly as a whisper, "Than why does your grace wish to usher me away to the darkness so soon?" She gave a sly wink. "I am a free spirit, your grace. But not THAT free." Still her fingers intertwined with his and she did not pull away.

Victor finally approaches the King's Hand. "Lord Smallwood, I'm not sure how I should approach you about this but... there is a question I have always wanted to ask you." Yancey turned to the riverlander, "And what is that?"
