A bored looking Black Brother comes up to the pair of men, mistaking them for wildlings before realize that they were of the mountain clans.
"What's your purpose at Castle Black," he asked, curiously.

"Trade." Halgar replied, pointing to the ox cart piled high. "We've furs, sheep-skin jerkins, salted mutton, beef and pork, and we're seeking steel and iron. Blades, axe-heads, horse shoes, and the like."

"Aye, then you'll want to go to the Quartermaster's Tower," he snickered at the word, and the Burleys could see why, when he pointed in the direction of the 'tower.' It was ten feet high, circular, thatched and made of wood. The First Steward had ordered it constructed to give his underlings place to work, an the construction was not done poorly, but it looked shabby, sitting amid the stone towers of Castle Black. "He'll set you right," the guard continued.

Halgar thanked the black brother, than muttered under his breath, as his son Robb nudged the oxen to take their wares over to the "Tower."
"I'm looking for the First Steward!" Halgar yelled, in a loud voice for a sleepy castle.

The First Steward comes down to greet the traders, and a bloodcurdling scream can be heard echoing from the castle behind him. "Apologies, Master, ah, Burley," he said, eyeing the badge that the older of the two men wore.
"The Lord Commander caught a deserter trying to murder him last night," the man added, as if that explained his lateness.

"Bloody deserters. Have his head good and off. Their worse than the wildlings when it comes to thieving and raping. Anyway, deserters or no, we came to see about doing some trade."

"Aye. My man said you were looking for arrowheads and blades and the like, and that's easily arrange-able. What have you fellows got?" he asked, eyeing their cart and doing calculations quickly in his head.

"Furs, wool, salted mutton, beef jerky and even some pork." He says gesturing for the man to look over the Ox cart. "Got some mead too, I'm sure it would sit right with you."

"Aye, the boys would love that. We got a few casks of a Dornish Red a few months, through traders at Eastwatch, that stuff really warms a man up, especially when he's out here freezing his balls off. Furs and wool come in handy for that too," he added.
Several black brothers come up to the wagon and begin taking an inventory of the amounts materials brought. "Good stuff, this," one of the men said to another, running his hands over a bundle of bear pelts.
"I can give you four hundred pound of iron for the lot of it. We've got a few ready-made swords and spears and such, but most of our stores are raw ore, unsmelted," he said to the clansmen.

Halgar frowned... "We ain't got no smithy, is the thing. You here have castle-forged steel." He pointed at the walls of Castle Black as if to establish that it is a genuine castle. "spear heads, axe heads, arrow heads, is what we want. Good steel which will hold an edge."

The First Steward's frown matched the clansman's. "Ah, I see. Well I suppose arrangements can be made, though it will take a little time. We'll have to bring in what you want from Eastwatch and Shadow Tower; I do not think we have the inventory for you in Castle Black, as we'll need to keep enough for ourselves until we can forge replacements from our spare ore.
"It's not as if we expect to be attacked any time soon, but I'm sure the Lord Commander would not be pleased if I sold all of our weapons and armor," he added with a wry grin.
