"Find the time? That's a lot of southron rot. You ought to get yourself a nice wife from one of the clans. You seem a strong young man, I'm sure plenty of woman would be glad to have you steal them away." The man said.
"Aye. Wait to long and you'll be an old crusty goat, and the girl is liable to fight you tooth and nail." The woman said with a wink.
"Aye. Get yourself a good woman to keep your house and give you sons as my Franny did."
"Oh hush you."

He smiled at the couple, which he had grown to care about.
"I might just do that, but the Knott and Liddle women that's about my age, resembles the goats that you herd. And I need something to look upon if I am going to get hard enough to produce sons."

The man guffawed, while the woman blushed.
"Well, there are none prettier than a Burley girl, but I wouldn't try to steal one unless I thought my manhood could afford to lose a few inches and still be worth the name cock," The man japed.
"Beautiful, but virtuous." the woman repeated.

Hamish laughed.
"I'd be so lucky if I managed to fine some one half as beautiful and skillfull as your wife."

The man's smile disappeared instantly.
"Don't you be getting any funny ideas." He said sternly, staring at Hamish with piercing eyes. He stared long and hard at the Harclay boy, before his lips began to curl into a smile.
"Just japing with you. Thank you. I'd send you up to The Burley to discuss a match, but he's away now, so I'd say come back in a month or two and he'd be glad to discuss a wife with ya."

Hamish smiled.
"I might just consider doing that, but I am not sure I will be able to get back here in two months. I need to speak with my father and to Lord Cerwyn before I decide what to do next"

"Whose Lord Cerwyn? You serve a lordling do you? How? Stablehand? Huntsman? I doubt your a scullery maid." The man laughed.

"I am his second in command, and close friend. "

"In truth?" The man looks surprise. "Woman, get Master Hamish some more stew." His wife quickly moves to comply, adding a greater helping of mutton to Hamish's meal.

He looked at them change as he mentioned that he was friends with Lord Cerwyn.
"I'd love to have some more stew, but please sit down, I can get it myself."

"Don't be silly, 'tis no trouble at all," the woman said, thumping her wooden spoon down on the side Hamish's bowl to remove a stringy piece of meat clinging tenously too it.
"More mead?" The man asked, but of course he was already in the middle of pouring.

He felt a little bit uneasy with the changed behaviours.
"Well, I'd love some more mead."
He ate and drank for a while, finishing the meal and drink.
"So where can I sleep, I need to rest for the morning."

The house had only one room.
"I'll bring out the furs if you're ready to sleep." The woman said, heading into the corner, and pulled out a series of thick furs. She laid down several nearest the fire for her guest.

He shrugged.
"I am not ready to go to sleep just yet, but I do think that I am going to take some fresh air."

"As you please." The couple turned their attention from their guest to their children, who had started an impromptu wrestling match over who would get to lay closest to the fire.
