After the death of Olander Reed, and the subsequent Battle to Retake Moat Cailin...
Lord Olivan Reed disappears from the Neck, along with his father's starmetal trident, Gods' Sight, and young Lord Lucas Blackwood. The pair are not seen again, though rumor has it that some men of the Night's Watch spotted a pair of cloaked figures with a remarkable spear heading north, beyond the Wall.
Hewlan Reed, the second son of Olander Reed, assumes control of the Neck, as well as lordship of Greywater Watch and Moat Cailin in his brothers absence. The remarkably quiet, reserved, and young crannogman brings a change to the once open ways of his people, casting off the majority of the bonds forged by his father and withdrawing into their swampy home. The men of the Neck rally to defend the Neck, or when absolutely called upon by their King, but otherwise remain isolated.
Whispers are exchanged by smallfolk and servants alike, from the most respectable great hall to the least reputable winesink, discussing the death of a certain employer. With a few commands, letters, and hushed words, the aspiring castellan of Moat Cailin, Yorlan Fenn, finds secret reports coming to him that had previously been delivered to his master.
It is said that the lady wife of Lord Bolton, Myrrah Reed, has locked herself in her her quarters at the Dreadfort, and rejects any and all forms of contact. The washer women whisper that every single garment the Lady Bolton owns, except for those of black fabric, have been thrown from her tower window aflame and in shreds. The smallfolk of the Dreadfort give her door a wide berth when not delivering her meals, lest they be confronted by the terrifying sobs and shrieks.
