Frowning at Rhyin with genuine sadness, "Is this lack of honesty on Cedric's part really a surprise...? I'm not supposed to finger Ser Dickon until after he's seperated from his troops and isolated from his allies..."

Dickon gapes, but Rhyin looks shrewdly at Lefford. "And why should I believe you over Cedric, Martyn?"

"My daughter sleeps in Cedric's bed. Do you think I would risk my only child's life over my dinner table if I didn't know it was the right thing?"

"You might if you desired to take his place..." Myatt says.

He shook his head vehemently. "Only a Lannister would be accepted in Cedric's place. If something happened, only Tyberion or his twin brother could succeed, and their mother was a Royce. I would be pleased to know my daughter was no longer a potential target."

"He's right..." Dickon says.
"He's wrong," Myatt retorts. His voice is cold. "I can think of a great many people who would be happy to have the Lannisters out of Casterly Rock."

He stands and begins pacing, waving his hands like a maester explaining history to an isolent student he cannot simply beat. "Not Westerners, I imagine. Not good men with a respect for tradition. Without the Lanisters, we fall apart, just like petty Ironmen, just like the Riverlanders with their Tullys and Blackwoods ad Freys, just like the Targaryens and Baratheons ever since Aegon stepped foot in Westeros. Without respect for the ruling family, the crown becomes a trinket to fight over, a bone for dogs to gnaw! Well, we do not need dogs, we need lions! But we cannot have a lion who sacrifices his own pack for a bone!"

Rhyin shakes his head, obviously agitated. "Tyberion is not his father. No matter what dark aspersions you wish to cast on Cedric, the man is our only chance at winning this war."

"Spoken like a true knight!!" He pulls out his pouch and pours it all over the table. Of course, it is nothing but gold. "Let me see here..." He starts seperating them into stacks with practiced hands. "That's your maester... that's Dickon's..." A much larger third stack. "That's my maester, before I had him replaced. Check your maesters' pockets! Ask him where he got the gold! Then ask yourself what sort of king hides behind the frontlines and busies himself spying on his own lords! You know how many soldiers' mouths he could feed with this?"
He took a seat. "Go and question your trusted advisor and healer... send a letter and see how many ravens he sends! Write a love letter with the words 'I love you more than king and country' and see how quickly Ser Rhyin Myatt is reassigned as well..."
He leaned forward in his chair. "Tyberion is not his father... but together we can still win this war and not leave our own country as scarred as the Riverlands. Cedric is not a good king..." He looked them both in the eyes. "You know this in your soul. I know you do. You're both trained from birth, you're raised to follow Lannister's orders... but aren't you also sworn to decency and honesty and fending off corruption? Honor alone won't carry you to victory, but without it, what sort of victory is worth having? If we're going to win this war, we must inspire our people, not shame them.."

Rhyin looks to the side, then takes a deep breath. "If you are right... and I say if... There are too many who love Cedric. We would have a war on our hands, and no matter which side wins, we would still lose when Rodrick or the rebels sweeps up who is left."

"Rodrik must kill him... whoever wields the knife must do it in the name of Rodrik so the Westerlands will not hesitate in uniting against thir foe..." he stared at his wife's pot pie while saying... "I'll play the traitor if that's what this country needs to get back on the right path. I'll kill Cedric and you will arrive too late to save him and deliver me to his son. I'll confess that I joined with Rodrik for vengeance against my father..."
He looked up at him. "I have lived a long life. My grandsons will go on to become my heirs and if you guide the king properly, the Westerlands will coninue to grow without giving up its soul."

There is a brief silence in the room. "I have misjudged you," Myatt says. "I did not think you were so... dedicated."
He looks towards Brax for a moment, then back to Lefford. "I won't stand in your way."

He nods in thanks. "And you, Dickon...? Will you let me do this thing?"

Brax frowns. "If he wants my head, I can't protest if someone wants to do the same to him."

"Then it is best if we speak no more of this..." He stands. "He will ride through here soon and when it happens, you must be sure to be out of sight until the deed is done. This was just a friendly meal between soldiers."
He leaves to prepare to commit regicide.
