Septon Tomas, kneeled in front of the statue of the Smith, the small white candle barely visible as the early morning light broke through the stained glass windows and the countless seven sided prisms that hung from the ceiling cast tiny bits of rainbows onto the dark marble floors of the kingdom’s oldest sept.
Tomas closed his eyes as he prayed to his favorite aspect.
Wise and gracious Smith, worker of men, crafter of elaborate plans and maker of things whole, hear my prayers. . . long has this kingdom of ours been broken, shattered into warring factions led by the impious and unpure of heart. . . treachery, deceit, kin slaying and other heinous acts have been common and led your followers into one war after the other.
Long have I prayed that you would mend men’s hearts in such a way to raise awareness of your faithful to redouble our efforts to bring the word of the seven to all who will hear. I know now, that no peace will be had if the faith turns a blind eye to injustice, seeks to enrich ourselves while sacrificing our principles. The Faith can no longer sit idly by as the Lords of the realm do as they please, we must fight again for justice as we did in the times before Maegor the Cruel.
The head Septon of the Starry Sept rose from his knees, making the sign of a seven pointed star as he rose. “Demitri,” he said to the younger Septon by his side, “fetch me quill and parchment,” the man nodded then scurried to grab the items requested. Tomas walked quietly to his solar in the Sept and began to write.
He wrote for the next two days stopping often to examine verse from the Seven Pointed Star, he would write and rewrite his declaration seventy-seven times before his hand ached so much that he could not write and so he dictated to his understudy for another seven reiterations. When he finished he had his septons write seven-hundred and seventy-seven copies of the manifesto and when complete seventy-seven riders rode out to septs in the Far Reach, Mander, Stormlands, West, Crownlands, Riverlands and elsewhere. Where ever the Faith of the Seven was heard the followers of Tomas rode out to preach his words. If the Lords of Westeros were set on war, then it was time that the Faith began to fight back.
