///////////////////////////// Dudley re-enters the manse after a morning of inspecting the troops sent out from Ashemark. His face is flushed but he feels somewhat invigorated, a little excited at the events that are to come. He catches a glimpse of himself in a mirror in the hallway as he passes. He pauses and smiles.
"Lord Dudley Marbrand, leader of men, fearless general, man of honour. A man who well served his King, his Liege and above all, his friends..." he whispers to himself. He catches a bit of chaff stuck to the shoulder of his grey cloak and knocks it aside. Nodding, he progresses to the study where he awaits the entrance of Lord Velaryon.

Monterys arrives back at Wormword Manse and is told by a servant that Lord Marbrand is in his study.
Entering the study, Monterys grins broadly at his childhood friend and moves across to the table where he pours them both a goblet of wine and sets one in front of Dudley.
"Lord Mallister has requested your personal participation in the re-taking of Barclay's holdings."

Running his fingers thoughtfully around the stem of the goblet, Dudley smiles.
"And of course my friend, he shall have it. I mean to see the achievement of your life's aim with mine own eyes Lord Velaryon." He took a sip of the wine.
"I intend to lead my own men," he added, looking closely for his friend's reaction. He himself seems to radiate pride.

Monterys slapped Dudley on the shoulder with delight, causing him to nearly spill his wine. Monterys gave another grin at Dudley's mock expression of pain.
"And so you should! It would be fitting if you were there at the return of Driftmark to the Velaryons."
He took out a crumpled piece of paper and handed it to Dudley.
"I have been invited to dine at Baldwin Lefford's establishment at the Bluebeard. Apparently Lord Lefford is based there until his townhouse is finished. He wishes to discuss the taking of Driftmark."
Monterys looked inquiringly at Dudley.
"Perhaps, seeing you are now taking command of Ashemark's men, you should attend as well."

"Yes. I imagine that might be for the best. I have not met the new Lord Lefford as of yet. Hopefully he possesses a touch more sense than his predecessor. One cannot argue with the nobility of his blood, yet these things do not always follow."
He took another swallow of the wine. He seemed keen to finish it off quickly.
"Did Lord Mallister have anything of particular interest to say when you met with him?"

"Apart from requesting your presence and asking if I had any experience in siege-craft...no not really. He certainly didn't divulge any of his plans to me."
Monterys finished his goblet of wine and put it down on the table. He strode to the window and observed the sinking sun.
"It grows late Dudley. Perhaps we should make out way to Lord Lefford's. If you like I'll arrange our escort from amongst the men to Bluebeards."

The other man nodded. "We should. And please do." He tipped back his head and finished off the rest of the wine. Wiping his mouth he laid the empty vessel down. He looked at it dubiously.
"I think I'll resist the temptation to drink much more. Business first. Come Monty." He ushered his friend out of the study.
