]The fire crackled, and the light casted by it wavered around the room, casting many shadows. Next to the hearth were two chairs, and a small table in between. Pieter sat in the one chair, patiently waiting.
As the man entered the room Pieter stood. “Lord Blackwood, it is nice to see you accepted my invitation.” Pieter said, motioning for him to sit down. A guard closed the door, and Francis walked towards the fire.
“I was quite surprised that you invited me, Lord Tully.” Francis said, taking a seat. He looked around the room for a moment, before placing his attention on Pieter. Pieter sat back down in his chair.
“The Blackwoods and Tullys don’t like each other. And we haven’t, for hundreds of years. I want to change that. Time is moving forward, Westeros is changing. And we cannot let a bitter rivalry stop that.” Pieter stated, not bothering to dance around the issue. He wasn’t one for small talk when serious issues were at hand.
“Indeed, Lord Tully.” Francis stated quietly, watching Pieter closely. He smiled slightly at Pieter’s abruptness, he hadn’t expected him to come right to the topic.
“The Blackwoods are under hard times now, they pay reparations to many, including the Ironborn. I find the idea ridiculous, those Ironborn deserve none of our money, Blackwood or not.” Pieter said, getting up and pouring two glasses of wine.
“I do not wish to feud with the Blackwoods forever, Francis. In fact, I want to help you. But I need your loyalty in order to do that. The Riverlands needs to be healed, and it can only heal when we set our differences aside. We are both Riverlanders, we both call it our home.” Pieter gave a glass to Francis, and sipped his own wine.
“I would reconcile our relationship, Lord Blackwood, by taking your sons as pages. There would be no better way to end the hate between our houses than to show your sons that there is no need for hate, no need for rivalry.” Pieter stated, sitting back down. Francis looked to be deep in thought, hopefully considering to accept the offer.
“Lord Tully, I wish to rid my name of taint. I do not want Blackwood to always mean Horas, I want to wash that from peoples’ minds. I will gladly allow you to take my sons as your pages, should you help me succeed in cleansing the Blackwood name. I would show the Riverlands that the Blackwoods can move forward. I cannot vouch for my brethren at Raventree Hall, but Stone Hedge is eager to move forward from our tainted past.” Francis stated, sipping his wine. Pieter nodded in agreement, clearly happy.
“I am glad of your decision, Lord Francis. You are a smart man, not to be brought down by your House’s past, or a petty age-old rivalry.” Pieter said, standing.
“I shall work with you to clear your name, and should you prove to be loyal you will be rewarded in kind. I thank you having the intelligence to understand that the Riverlands needs to unite to be strong.” Pieter finished, smiling.
“A toast, Lord Blackwood, to the future.” Pieter downed his wine and stood. This is good, very good. I am one step closer to rebuilding the Riverlands. He is only one of many. Francis drank the wine and stood, nodding his head slightly as he walked towards the door.
“Lord Tully, I am glad that you asked for this meeting. And I am eager to work with you. But let me warn you, the Blackwoods of Raventree hall will not take this lightly.” Francis said, as he left.
