Suddenly erupting from all sides around him were Basilisk soldiers. They had dug under the forces laying siege to King’s Landing and now sprung up in the midst of the Stormlander’s army. Half his men lay siege to the walls, while the other half was wedged between the new Basilisk forces. Willam saw several men emerging from a tunnel, and he ran forward with a small group to intercept them.
He saw his first target a tall Basilisk man rushing at him with his great halberd in a sideways sweep. Before they met he could see the man whirl his halberd around in an arc trying to decapitate Willam in a single strike. Willam ducked the blow and once he saw the man was off balance he sprung up slashing the man from his right shoulder to his lower belly. He did not care if the man was dead or not, and before he knew it he had moved onto a new opponent. Another man rushed at him and he led headlong into the strike. Before the Basilisk soldier could bring his sword down in an arc, Willam had his shoulder under the man’s ribs flipping him with a tackle. Throwing the man, Willam turned his back planting his sword in the man’s chest and ripping it out solidly. Behind him he heard a clang of metal. Turning he saw Kaland’s sword locked with another opponent’s a few inches from his head.
------------
Kaland couldn’t watch Willam forever he knew as he bounced the Basilisks sword back with his own throwing the man off balance. A few seconds later and Willam’s head would have been split in two before he even knew it.
Kaland smiled at Willam and spun to face the Basilisk soldier. It seemed the crowd had cleared away and it was just him and the enemy. The man spun and brought his sword around in a huge arc smashing into Kaland’s shield. Kaland felt the pain of the blow hit, but he shrugged it off and brought his sword toward the man skull. The man parried it as he had hoped and Kaland responded timely by smashing his shield against the man’s exposed left side. He felt a crack as his shield met the basilisk head, and as his shield fell he could see blood fly through the air. The man sat clutching his broken nose and jaw, and as he looked up Kaland brought his sword down slicing the man from shoulder to hip. He heard someone behind him as he whirled sticking another man in his mid section before he could respond.
--------------
Jason charged into battle among the other Stormlanders. He rode over any Basilisk that got in his way atop his chestnut brown courser, slashing at all the enemies within his reach. He leaned to the side, narrowly avoiding a blow from a halberd. Jason had not yet regained his balance when an arrow hit his horse, causing it to rear and throw him off in panic.
Jason fell to the ground, but managed to get back on his feet just in time to parry an enemy soldier’s blow. He immediately retaliated, thrusting his sword deep into the Basilisk’s chest. Before he could remove his sword from the dying man, Jason heard a thunderous crack as the King’s Gate was forced open. He ran forward, through the gate and into the city, where the battle truly began.
--------------
Willam rushed through the street’s of King’s landing. The Red Keep was not far in front of him. His force would halt every so often having been waylaid by Basilisk troops. It was then he saw it in front of him the Red Keep. He stabbed one man and stepping over his body made his way to the keep.
It was at that moment he saw her stunning figure in white armor atop the walls, her black hair flowing and a wicked look on her face. She led the troops against the Stormland’s army pushing them back. He could not focus on anything but her in fact it almost cost him his life as several Basilisks rushed upon him. He killed one but another was quick upon him tackling him to the ground. He felt the man’s chain mail slam against his fist as the basilisk punched him. He looked up seeing the man lift up off his chest as a sword skewered the man through his mid section.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” he heard Kaland Stone yell as he helped him to his feet.
Kaland rushed off but still Willam could not take his eyes off her. He cut one man down, but his eyes drifted to her. She cut soldier after soldier down and although he was her enemy she fought beautifully. It was then he saw Ser Osney Santager step up to face her. The man towered over her, and Willam felt his heart flutter as he rushed headlong into the fray not to help him but instead her. He cut down Basilisks down left and right, but she was too far. Osney’s blade slashed her deep across the abdomen following her first strike. His second cut deep into her forearms. The last and fatal blow was to her stomach as she impaled herself on his sword. Willam turned his head suddenly taken back to Casterly Rock. His men pushed forward and he knelt on the ground as he heard a man yell.
“basilisk’s”!
--------
Kaland saw Willam kneel as the men pushed forward, and then saw his best friend pick himself on and plunge headlong into the fray. In front of him basilisks were chained in one of the alleyways of King’s landing turning every soldier that faced them into stone. Kaland shielded his eyes. He knew the lizards were a good way’s away from him as he ran toward them he jumped hurling himself into a side alley. He finally opened his eyes seeing Jason Dondarrion struggling with a soldier in front of him. Jason met the man’s blows and finally drove his sword into the man’s mid section, but what Jason did not see was the basilisk behind him with its piercing gaze. Kaland rushed forward seeing that Jason had not noticed the creature. He threw his shield to the side grasped his sword with two hands and quickly brought his sword down hard on the creatures neck. He heard it yelp with the first strike and with the second he severed its head. He saw Jason turn with a look of puzzlement. Kaland smiled and rushed headlong into the fray.
----------
Wherever Jason looked, he saw Stormlanders falling to the ground. He witnessed the last moments of a Dondarrion man-at-arms who he recognized from his journey from Storm’s End as his head was split by a halberd. Jason had always thought that battle was where men could truly test their mettle in combat. Where heroes were born and where the wicked met their fate. Now he saw that it was chaotic slaughtering, a constant struggle to stay alive. He was disgusted by the odor of blood and death around him, yet his body continued to fight, as if on its own.
He found that, although the enemy was holding their barricades well, many Stormlanders were pouring into unprotected streets and making their way up to the Red Keep. Jason followed after his men, almost laughing at how foolish the foreigners were to work so hard to protect their barricades, when the armies of Westeros could just walk around them. Had he not been so dazed from the fighting, he might have realized it was a trap.
In front of him, countless Stormlanders began to freeze and turn to stone. Jason caught a glimpse of green before realization set in and he shielded his eyes. He stalked forward cautiously, plunging his sword into the Basilisks whenever he saw green in the corner of his eye. One managed to whip his stomach with its tail, sending him to the ground. It crawled onto him and lunged at his throat, but he held out his sword, causing the creature to impale itself on his blade. Jason got to his feet slowly trying to catch his breath when more enemy soldiers came. One came at Jason while he was still recovering, but soon the young Dondarrion was able to gain the advantage slay the man. He jumped when he heard a loud yelp from directly behind him, followed immediately by a loud, squelching noise. He turned in time to see Kaland Stone smiling at him, over the beheaded corpse of a Basilisk.
Jason turned back towards the Red Keep in time to see a man he recognized as Lord Tallahar Tyrell retreating from a woman garbed in white. Two more men took his place, but she quickly buried her blade into one of their mid-sections. It only took a few more seconds for her to hack into the second man’s neck, killing him instantly.
The sight of it disturbed Jason, but he knew the fighting would be over soon. He rallied what was left of the men around him and continued onward, towards the Red Keep.
--------------
There was still some skirmishing up ahead, but Willam wiped the blood from his eyes as the battle slowed to a halt. It was over, King’s Landing had been taken. The bodies around him filled the streets and it seemed they ran red with the blood of men both Basilisk and Westerosi alike…of course there were far more Westerosi soldiers. The siege had been devastating and all for one city. He thought to himself “was it worth it”? All this sacrifice for an unappreciative boy king’s seat.”
He heard himself mutter. “I hope it was worth it my king, I hope you don’t forget this sacrifice.”
He started rummaging through the bodies and heard a few men around him still dying from their wounds as they wept for help, and as others sought to comfort them. The sounds of battle were still around him; battle still raged it was just hushed. Now was the hardest part of the battle the end. It was then he saw her. Turning over a corpse of a Stormlander, he saw the beautiful empress. Ser Osney’s wounds were not apparent and her face was as beautiful as it had been when he saw her on the ramparts. He planted his sword in the ground and lifted her toward him with a gloved hand. He took one look at her and he felt pity, anger, sorrow, jealousy, envy, and remorse. He could hear his breath hard against the great helm he wore. Staring deeply into her closed eyes he knew this was another face he would never forget. Setting her down Willam picked up his sword slowly making his way toward the Red Keep.
