“Keep moving forward!!! Watch the flank!!! Spearmen hold your ground!!!” Darien’s voice had never hurt so much, but then again he had never commanded a group of men in a battle of this vastness before. 250 Crownlanders they were, not a lot, but at least he had something. The battle had started well, the first charge against the wall being undertaken by the larger forces in the army. At the rear, Darien was sharing his command with some men, but he decided to take the initiative when all of a sudden a humongous group of invaders charged at them. “Steady!!! Don’t give an inch!!!” The front ranks of the Crownlanders were slowly being hacked down and Darien tried to think rapidly about something he could do. “Aren’t there any bloody archers!?” He yelled, but no one seemed to hear. He glanced around for a moment, seeing King Rickon and his Kingsguard not far behind him. Turning again, Darien was surprised to see a huge hole in the ranks of the Crownlanders. Somehow the enemy had managed to punch through and were now streaming into the centre of the force. “Hold them off!!!” He yelled, but he could already see that it was futile. The Crownland men were dying two for one and the enemy was slowly coming closer. Decapitating a man to his right, Darien suddenly caught motion from ahead. One of the enemies Champions was making his way in his direction, his focus on something behind him however. Darien turned and saw that the King was right behind him, none of his guards near him. ‘Looks like this is one for me…’ Darien thought, readying himself for combat.
Barely a minute later it was over, the Champion dead on the ground and Darien moving forward again. The enemy was everywhere now and he was already making his goodbyes when a force of Valemen came to the rescue, cutting the basilisk to shreds. Then it went into the city, where Darien found him self alone for a moment, having lost the small group of men he was with, which included Ser Osney, Brynden and the King. Resting for a moment against a wall, Darien thought about how many men he must have already seen die, when all of a sudden the most horrifying noise erupted from the not too far away streets, and Darien knew what it was. “Basilisks!” He gasped. Shutting his eyes, Darien ran around the corner, relying on his ears to lead him to one of the lizards. He already heard men hacking at the air, and sometimes striking true when he felt his own blade cut into something. A scream that could only come from an animal followed and, shouting for help, Darien kept hacking.
Daring to open his eyes, Darien saw that the enemy were retreating to the walls, their monsters all slain. Shocked for a moment at the amount of stone soldiers that were now standing around, Darien pointed at a small group of soldiers, ignoring what sigils they were, and shouted. “You men, follow me!” The men turned and seemed to agree that he was the best solution for a leader. Darien lead the way up one of the outer staircases to the walls around the red keep, his new found men following intently. A small squad of enemies appeared in front of them but Darien and his men smashed through them as if they weren’t there, and again he was face to face with one of the Champions. “Out of my way!” Darien screamed, bringing his sword down with such might that it took the Champions head off. After that he could not remember a thing.
