Antario Yronwood laid back on a divan, throwing knives at a man-sized target from his reclined position. One other man was in Yronwood’s command tent, standing at attention. Antario flicked a knife at the target. It went wide.
“How are operations progressing, Leoric?” Antario asked, taking more careful aim.
An older man, regal and grey haired, replies. “Well, my lord. Our network grows stronger by the day. There are few places in Dorne where we do not have eyes and ears, and those grow fewer as the weeks pass.”
The knife sunk into the wood in the spot marked as the target’s shoulder. “Have you found a likely girl?”
“Not yet, my lord.”
Antario nodded. “Show me the letter.”
Leoric reached into a pocket and withdrew a small envelope, the seal broken. Antario studied it for a moment. “A forgery?”
“Not for the seal, my lord, no. That was stamped by Lord Harlaw’s own signet ring, quietly returned after having been used. It is quite genuine.”
Antario opened the letter inside and scanned it briefly. “Whose work is this?”
“Delfini’s, my lord. We recruited him from Lys. We procured several documents with Lord Harlaw’s hand on them – minor orders and requests, the type of thing not like to be noticed missing. The imitation is quite good, I believe.”
“So it is,” Antario mused. The letter in question was, by all appearances, sent from Lord Dagmer Harlaw to Lord Artor Volmark. Its contents were without a doubt treasonous; it discussed when and how to strike, and ‘though the odds may be against us for now, when Dagon is King of the Riverlands and the Islands, we will be greatly rewarded’.
“If I may, my lord…” Leoric began, “This plan seems… very dangerous.”
Antario grinned at that, then threw another knife at his target. It landed dead center, quivering. “Fortune favors the bold, Leoric."
