Alexander Irwyn leads an assault against the besiegers trying to open up a two front battle against the enemy. The defenders will attempt to form a wedge in order to break the defenses and link up with the Stormlanders. 3,500 men will remain in the keep (the weakest and most vulnerable) to prevent a counter assault from the enemy and hopefully secure a gate to flee if the battle turns against the sortie.

As the defenders rush out, a group of the defender's best marksmen will open up on the hooded men near the large cages.

The men of Deep Den ride out, as a rain of crossbows fall down. They hit the first hooded team with a dozen quarrels, but not the second as the hooded men, pull off the cloth on the cage, revealing a large green lizard, slightly larger than a dog. The creature does not hiss or spit, or make any sound, it simple gazes out at the men before it. The men within its field of vision become sluggish, and slow, and finally come to a complete stop, turned to stone. Finally a spearman managed to get through and impaled the creature like a wild boar. It squealed in rage and pain, before dying. The battle joined, and the Crown and Westermen got the better of the opponent, cutting into their center, seeking to break their lines and connect with the Stormlanders.

The Horns sound for a prepared retreat. The troops fall back in an orderly fashion, covered by bow fire from the walls. The Enemy do not advance, they reform and prepare.
