It began a few hours before dawn. Fisherman returning from their early morning catches warned of an enormous armada of ships approaching from out on open water.
By the time the guard had awoken, and set to posts, it was too late.
Hundreds of enormous ships, some six decks high, with massive black sails, crashed into port. From their gangplanks, tens of thousands of warriors in coat of plate armor, outlandish helms, and black masks debarked. They wielded razor sharp swords, or long bladed halberds, and swarmed forward.
The Lannisport watch fought honorably, but they were overwhelmed. They cut down two, even three times their own numbers, but the foreigner invaders were oblivious to their losses.
When resistance was put down, the city was put to the sack, shops burned, anything of value taken, even gold leaf stripped from manse walls. The smoke was visible from far into the Westerlands.
By the time dusk fell, the city was occupied, and a black banner, with a green lizard, rose above the walls.
