As the lord betrothed to their young Lady Reed stood waiting beneath the long, lonely weirwood, the crannogmen traveled north assembled nearby to watch the ceremony. Each of the tiny men and woman had a dark brown stripe of mud across their foreheads, and most held burning peat brands that smelt headily of musk and cloves to ward off the growing darkness.
Finally, after the sun had disappeared over the horizon and dusk had set fully upon them, Pypar Reed arrived, and joined her groom beneath the heart tree, crimson leaves hanging above like reaching hands. She was clothed in a fine dress of grey-green silk trimmed in black velvet with matching supple leather slippers. She smiled at Edmure shyly and took her place at his side, a beautiful blue-and-white flower tucked behind her right ear.

It was all she could do not to blush. "You are kind to say so, my lord," she whispered to him as the crowd of crannogmen and northmen watched on. Her hand twitched nervously, then swiftly moved to her groom's, clutching it tightly.

"I kneel before this heart tree, just as my heart kneels before you. By the wills of the Old Gods, and the sanctity of the First of Men and the Children of the Forest, I swear to be a devoted and loving wife to you. I swear it by earth and water. I swear it by bronze and iron. I swear it by ice and fire."
