Breck burrowed himself in a mound of books-- in fact every one he could get his hands on he purchased and added to his growing collection of tomes detailing Westerosi histories. His mother, the septa who taught him nobility, and his mentor Lord Barclay had paved the way for the new-found interest in calligraphy and writing that Breck had discovered in himself not even two years ago. His main interest now, aside from reading was to pen his own accounts of life in Blackhaven.
Of course researching the past did lend itself to helping things in the present-- always he was discovering new ways to increase and protect the rights of certain groups he felt were poorly represented. Not only this but Breck also found himself penning more succinct and elegant letters to his bannermen, more pleasant greetings with words that now came easier to him.
After investing in several feather-pens and copious amount of black ink, Breck spent the best parts of his days away from the training yard despite the fact that he had used to spend the majority of his days with sword in hand. He very likely now knew the truth of war, and its unnecessary nature, it seemed that peacetime had made Breck even more loyal, even more quiet, and even more diligent in his workloads. No longer did he spend his day fighting, to spend the last hour of the day working...now he only trained his sword-arm when he had significant amounts of time to spare, but those moments came rarely.
Breck's latest book in progress was actually his first, an inside view of his family-- a novel concept for someone of his station, and although he could not divulge all details of his family, he was putting his memories on parchment, and sealed them in time with ink on paper. Now his kids would be able to learn of the grandfather, the grandmother, and aunt they'd never meet. Breck would make them come alive in his descriptions and his stories. It was his chosen method of tribute.
The new book was considerably large with illustrated sections done by Septon Norm, who was also a fairly accomplished artist within the Sept. He had drawn small pieces of Breck's ancestors, his coat of arms, and his immediate family in all imaginable colors, before inscribing the book, "House Dondarrion" for Breck, and returning it to him to continue writing within.
Breck also invested some minor funds into researching his non-immediate family members, and their whereabouts. Especially the distant ones. Not all men were alive during his grandfather's reign, and in fact most could not remember Lord Memoran's rule. Breck was displeased with this prospect, and though he had never met or heard many stories of his grandfather and more distant family, he invested time and effort into finding out more.
