Denard frowned at Yew’s back. The man was still talking to the Septon motioning towards the sept and laughing. It had been almost the same for nearly an hour. Algood hated that man so much. It was only to torture him that Cedric kept assigning Denard to follow Ser Yew about. Swift certainly did not need any of Denard’s help. The man could literally talk for days with out food and water, and that was all that was needed here.
Swift looked over his shoulder at Denard and winked. Denard looked away frowning. That fucker was driving him crazy, and he deeply wanted to slit the man’s throat. But even Denard had to admit that he was useful. What Swift was doing with that septon was delicate business, and you had to have a certain skill set. A perfumed tongue though could grease any wheel. Even one as holy as was standing before Algood.
Swift bowed to the Septon and laughed one more time. Then supremely confident he turned and walked back to Denard. Denard spit into the carpet. The smile on Swift’s face meant things had gone better then expected.
Swift’s smile froze as he glared at the spit. “You must be house broken, Old boy. I can not have you pissing on the floor of the Great Sept. I would smack you on the nose if I thought it would do any good.”
Denard growled back, “For the last fucking time, I am two years younger then you. And I did not piss, merely spit. And I will fucking spit on these floors whenever I want. I hate these religious fakes.”
Swift’s eyes rolled in their sockets. “Maybe you should wait until we have left these sacred halls until you start bad mouthing its residents.” He begin to fidget with his silken garments.
Denard looked at Yew and ground his teeth. The man was going to make him ask. “So how did it go?”
Swift looked back, “Oh smashingly really. He agreed to expedite the ceremony for half the gold Cedric gave us. So looks like we got a bonus.
Denard smiled, it was not a pleasant smile. The fool was just rearranging bookings, but he was taking gold for it. And now he was a Lannister man. He would tell them every thing they needed to know to avoid being incriminated for graft. Yew was a genius.
The next day Denard and Cedric were on their knees in the Great Sept as the new Lannister Agent anointed them with the Oils. The Septon did not like the weird proprietary the new knights were giving him before their vigil.
