Ser Axel Lannister dismounted from his horse and gave the reins to the boy as Elson Garner and Ser Yvan Payne followed suit. They walked around the stables to enter into the inn, and suddenly the sound of raucous laughter and music was upon them. Axel found a table for three of them to sit at, and ordered the barkeep to bring them some ale and meat. After they had eaten and recovered from the hard riding, Axel began speaking
Axel grinned at his two companions, "well, I think we escaped them."
Elson shook his head, "yes, they are never likely to look for us in this tavern, brilliant hiding place, Axel. I do think this may just be another instance of you going looking for trouble."
"They haven't caught us yet-" just as he spoke the in door opened, and in came a group of men, the leader of which was a sandy-haired knight bearing a blue sigil with a white bend across it. His sword was drawn.
Ser Yvan and Ser Axel looked to each other and grinned, while Elson quietly whispered, "I count ten."
"Ten," Axel answered and laughed cockily, "well that might be a challenge."
The sandy-haired knight and his gang approached them at their table.
"I'll have no violence in here," called the a scared looking inkeep as other scared looking people made their way out of the inn, but the gang ignored him.
"Ser Axel," said the knight through gritted teeth, "you have layed with my betrothed, I am here to make you pay."
Axel looked up at him and offered a disarming smile, "Ser Terent, I am afraid there must be some misunderstanding, who is y-" Axel didn't finish his sentence, he picked up his mug of ale and cracked it against a surprised Ser Terent's jaw. He didn't look to see the effect before pulling out his sword and raising it. Ser Yvan was on his feet in seconds. With his massive arms he picked up the heavy wooden table they had been sitting at and roared, charging at three of the men standing near Terent. Terent himself had landed on the floor, and Axel's sword was soon through him.
The inn was a mass of confusion as people pushed to escape and Ser Yvan stood in the middle of them holding his massive table while Ser Terent's men desperately tried to get around him and get to their master and Ser Axel.
Two men got to Axel, and the Lannister knight danced around them with his sword. He parried a blow from one then went on the attack from another, despite numbers he was pushing them backwards. A third of the gang managed to get behind Axel, and was about to land an axe in his head when he suddenly went limp, the axe falling from his hand. He collapsed to the ground with a dart stick from his neck, and Elson, ten paces behind him, sitting on a chair inspecting his nails.
Axel quickly cut down the two men he was fighting with, and saw another charging at him. He took a small axe from his belt and threw it at the charging man, hitting him squarely in the chest. By now Ser Yvan was surrounded. Warhammer drawn, he made massive sweeping attacks to keep the men back, pushing them back one at a time. Axel came from behind and ran one through, while another fell to Elson's poisoned needles. Ser Yvan, given freedom to manouever, charged the largest left of the living, and smacked his warhammer into his side, feeling the man's ribs crack into pieces from the blow, he lifted the hammer and sent the next blow at the man's head, caving in his skull.
Axel sliced another man down and looked around hungrily for his next opponent when he saw that only himself, Ser Yvan and Elson Garner remained standing in the room. The rest lay dying on the floor or had fled. Ser Axel laughed and turned to Elson.
"Perhaps you were right Elson, this was not the best place to seek clandestinity. I think we should sleep under the stars tonight," he said, panting.
"Good of you to realise," Elson responded humourlessly, leaning over those who still lived and pulling out needles from his sleeve and pushing them into their hearts.
"Is that a new poison you're employing? It seems much more effective."
Elson nodded, "manticore venom, a Dornishman educated me as to it's efficiency, and on this occasion I'm pleased to say I met a Dornishman who wasn't a liar. Now let us leave this place before more of Ser Terent's friend arrive."
Axel laughed again and led them out to the stables.
