He walked into the Lost Soul Inn, and took a seat facing away from the fire. Hooded and silent, he goes unnoticed, with nothing but the closing door to signal any change in the Inn. It was near deserted, save three or four men seated on the other side of the room.
A fire crackled, and the barkeep rubbed a glass with a rag. Looking up, he's shocked to spot the hooded man in the black cloak. Nothing could be seen of his face, but a single lock of black hair fell from the forehead.
"Aye,would ye like sumthin'?"
The hooded man turns to face the barkeep, though still nothing could be seen beneath the hood. A small chill went down the back of the man, as he looked into that black abyss. The hooded man turned his head slightly and bright green eyes, the color of wildfire, burst from the hood. Though it was only for a moment, for the stranger adjusted his head, turning the contents of the hood to a dead black again.
Did I see true?, thought the barkeep.
The stranger got up and walked over, though his back never turned away from the fire. "Whatis your best, my good ser?" said the man in a pleasant voice. It was a smooth tone, and the words seemed to flow off his tongue. It was a voice you could trust.
"Er, that would be m'Summerwine from the Arbor," said the barkeep.
"Please. Give me five."
"Aye, I could do that."
After bringing out the wine, and pouring the drinks, the barkeep asked, "So, stranger, are ye foreign ter Kings Landing?" he wanted to know more about this man.
"I am here on business. It would not be my first time," the stranger replied simply, taking a sip from one of the cups. "Ah, yes. This will do nicely."
"You like it then, ser?"
"Yes, very much, thank you. Do you see those men over there?" asked the stranger, gesturing to the men sitting at the table.
The barkeep took his gaze off the stranger and looked over. "Aye. They're not m'regulars, I've never seen em' before," finished the barkeep, looking back to the stranger, who was re adjusting his arm on the bar.
"Yes, well I would like you to give them these drinks, on me of course. It is always nice to obtain new friends. Please, tell them it's on the house," he said, flipping a coin at the barkeep, who caught the golden piece.
Nodding, the barkeep took the drinks over to the men, who were in deep discussion. As he approached with the drinks, they hushed up, turning their attention to the barkeep.
"Aye, this be on the house, for new customers," said the barkeep, handing them the drinks. "It's Summerwine, best in the city," he smiled, showing crooked teeth.
Taking the drinks, while staring warily at the smiling barkeep, one of the men took a sip. "That is quite gracious of you, ser. Many thanks," he said, taking another sip. The other men followed in doing so.
Turning back to go towards the bar, the barkeep noticed the stranger was gone. Confused, he walked over to the bar, where the payment for the drinks lay.
"Strange man..." he mumbled to himself. About to walk back around the bar, he heard coughing. Turning to look, he saw that all four of the men were turning purple in the face, one clawing at his neck, the other two bent over, trying to catch breath. But the last man, he grasped his throat, staring right at the barkeep, eyes bulging. They were dead as another moment passed.
