"Indeed. I understand the feeling. I haven't been back to Spottswood since your brother, in his infinity wisdom, made me a lord or some such. When men are required by duty to act beyond their nature, well, thats when the difficulty starts."

"That must have been a day, when you were named Lord. Have you ever met Roland?"

"No Scot, I'm afraid I haven't. When you're knighted, they dub you, and you swear an oath, and stand a vigil, and are anointed by the Septon. When you're made a lord, they send you a funny rolled up piece of parchment. Tell me than, which do the Gods, and our own rulers consider more important? The knight, or his lord?"

Scot sputtered on his wine as he laughed. "That is a very inerteresting observation, Ser Osney! So... Who resides over Spottswood now?"

"That's a good question. I think I have a castellan, fellow has been there since before I went to the free cities, so I imagine he knows what he's doing." Santagar shrugged, apparently disinterested.

"What is it? Speak your mind Royce."

Scot looked a bit sheepish as he said, "Something my father always said. Always make your duty your first priority, especially when it is something you find distasteful."

"One should also know one's limitations, the Gods know I am no steward, so I have a man doing that for me." Osney said shrugging.

"I'd have liked to have stayed. I don't know why Jarmen and Webber get to have all the fun," mutters Ser Galwyn.

Jeyne was mounted on a dainty, swift black mare named Wildling, a wedding gift from Lady Aranya. Beside her rode Selyse, her face tear-stained and ravaged with grief, and she kept crying to Marina, who rode beside her. Leaving her brother behind had not been easy. Selyse had cried and shouted and physically tried to pull him along, until the queen's men restrained her. Septa Melyssa kept trying to soothe the girl.
Lady Sara rode beside her daughter, but dropped back to comfort the orphan girl. At the rear a man-at-arms was leading the queen's other horse, a bay Dornish mare named Valiant, who had been gifted to her by Lord Irwyn.
Jeyne's face was calm and stoic as she rode, but she nudged the black mare closer to Rickon and said, "How many are left to defend Highgarden, my lord?"

"I believe much of the strength of Highgarden is still intact. I was told they have 10,000 men set in defense of their city. It has strong walls. We should be able to stay there in safety, and plan to retake our Capital, if we must."

"Ten thousand is good," she said, relieved.
