"Lord Royce, did you not try and find relatives and descendants of the nobility whose lands you were redistributing?" Rickon asked.

"Yes, we made an exhaustive search. No Martells bent the knee of any significant relation. Tristeza Martell was in open rebellion, as were many other Dornish lords. Their children also lost their inheritances."

Rickon looked at him. "I understand I will make enemies. But Horas Martell was not in a position to come forward and bend the knee. He should be given that chance."

"And what then of Rhodri Arryn's as yet unborn grandchildren? Should they be born could they then make claim on The Eyrie against House Royce? Or could some spawn of Horas Blackwood make claim against those Blackwoods who bent the knee and thus live in the King's Peace? Such an unlawful act by the King will make any King's judgement suspect."

Rickon seemed a tad overwhelmed by the onslaught of disagreement, turning to Benfry he asked, "What do you think?"

Durran also looked to Benfry.

Rickon seemed a tad overwhelmed by the onslaught of disagreement, turning to Benfry he asked, "What do you think?" ooc: Benfry looks back Benfry sighed "I said that you would have a difficult time convincing the lords of this sire. And these are the inner council, privy to secrets not widely known. How much more vociferous would the protests be with those who lost much against Martell - Lord Irwyn for instance" Benfry turned to the rest of the Small Council "I will tell you what I told the King when I met with Lady Martell. She is convinced that Dorne will never know peace without a Martell on the Sunspear throne. You may view this as a wholly selfish opinion but it is not without truth. Remember the instability the Northlands had after the plague near decimated House Stark. Callen Baratheon scoured Westeros looking for someone with Stark blood as he knew the importance of a name. You could argue he did the same when he resurrected House Arryn with Lord Rhodri although the maesters tell me that action caused as much chaos as it resolved in the Vale. The matter at hand is that Lady Martell is offering to remove herself from the protection of Braavos and subject herself to the King's Justice in return for the promise of restoring her children their birthright. We can either continue with the status quo of having a live Tristeza Martell living "in resistance" in Braavos and as such remaining a symbol to all who continue to do so in Dorne or we can have Lady Martell executed in return for a Martell babe one day ruling Dorne once more. The child, ill-named to be sure, is only 2 years of age and does not have blue lips to my knowledge. I see Lady Aranya's point about fostering but a babe cannot hurt us now - Lady Martell still can - as a rallying point for dissent if nothing else. If she submits to the King's judgement and renounces her actions, she robs them of their symbol. We tie the child to us even more if we can betroth them to a future child of either King Rickon or his brother Rodrick. This is the reason that, when the King asked my opinion on the matter I brought him, my inclination was to accept with certain conditions" he looked at the others

"Aranya offers the true point. Tristeza would sell herself to us using our own coin. Furthermore, the King's own honor would be deeply impugned were he to betray his loyal Lord Hillcrest for the consideration of Lady Martell and her brood."

Durran turned to the King now and bravely said, "I am in concurrence with your other councilors, your grace."

"Lady Aranya we can not arrest her. I am bound by my word. It was your life we bought with that coin do you not remember?" Rickon sighed and looked about before slowly nodding. "Benfry is right. This deal will be accepted. Benfry will you take care of this, with your conditions." Rickon stood and walked from the room ignoring any calls to him.

After the King left Durran said, "I can tell his mother's blood flows more freely in his body."

Benfry met the eyes of the other councillors, gave a slight shrug and shake of the head and followed the King out of the chamber

"I do not support that decision either, but I don't see this as an occasion to leave the king's council. He simply needs to learn that rules are not mean to be followed as by the book as he follows them", Durran said with a modest bow of the head.

Roland exhaled heavily and shook his head. "He is not following any laws by the book. He follows laws defined only by the whims of his child's brain. He's a child, and turning into a spoiled one. And Benfry's judgement is clouded, or he just is not a man to put a child to heel when necessary. I will not suffer to be dishonored so. I will not carry out this nor actively serve on on a council for a king that acts so, nor for his regent who cannot teach him to be a king. I shall return to the Vale." Roland stood, and removed the chain of his office, laid it on the table, and left the room.
