Roose knelt in the soft snow beneath the weirwood tree, Tyla across from him, and his lords gathered around him. Roose felt Blizzard's eyes on him, the direwolf sat beneath the tree as well, on guard.

The crannogmen stood about the Godswood, all a full step behind Olander Reed. Every one of them stood with a line of brown mud drawn down their forehead to the tip of their nose.
All eyes were on their liege lord, Roose Stark.

Roose knelt, unsure of what to say, unlike the marriages in the south these were not officiated by a septon, and so the vows were said by those to be bound together.

Roose felt the cool, wet soil mixed with snow in his hand, and filled his nose with the sweet scent of the soldier pines. He felt the eyes of the weirwood on him, and began to feel a mixture of emotions in him. Over the years he had turned from a wild wolf to a hard one, not necessarily tame, but stronger and colder. But he still felt unsure of himself, especially as he looked on the girl before him.

After a time Roose spoke. "By solemn oath in this godswood, sacred to the First Men and the Children of the Forest, sanctuary of the old gods that I will be a strong and just husband to you. Faithful and upright in all my dealings, stalwart in my duty."

She kissed him back lightly, and then, the ceremony complete, the wedding party returned to the castle.
