Aranya was silent for a moment. "Tell him that Timm Vikary brought me out of my dungeon cell into this room here. Tomas Clegane has betrayed us. I have given my word not to try to escape. The Sealord plans to put me on trial and execute me, or at least that is what he says. He is currently in 'negotiations' of some kind, and I think he is finally showing a liking for trade agreements. I am his coin. I don't know what he intends to buy with me, but I suspect it might have something to do with his precious princess, or perhaps the Targaryen prince."

The rat looks up unblinkingly at Aranya while she speaks, then once she is finished darts off the bed and out of the room under the cell door.

Aranya sank back on the bed, picking up the torn lace and fingering it absently as she thought.

Up in her tower, Aranya woke covered in cold sweat, shaking violently as she tried to control her agony of pain and horror. He had killed the cat. Aranya had only felt two animals die before, and the effects were tremendous. She curled up in a silent, trembling ball, fighting to control her panic and pain. Slowly it subsided, and guilt for the cat and fresh rage at the Sealord overwhelmed her pain.

In the morning, there was a subdued knock upon the door of Aranya's chamber.

Aranya had bathed and dressed herself, grimacing, in one of the ridiculous gowns, this one a blue silk with big poufy flowers. "Come in," she said sullenly, feeling like a clown.

Tristeza pushed the door open, carrying in one hand, a bowl, and in the other, a bundle of deep blue fabric. "Good morning, Lady Royce." she said simply, and turned away to set down the heavy bowl upon a table. She was wearing a plain white dress; she owned many, and none of them were very distinctive.

Aranya watched her narrowly. "Good morrow, Lady Tristeza. What brings you here?"

"I was in the kitchen as the staff readied your breakfast," Tristeza replied, "I had to see the children to their lesson; it is in this wing. I volunteered to deliver it to you, as I was to be in the area, regardless." she took another glance at the bowl. "It looks like a bowl of fruit to me--maybe there is something more to it. I am not a culinary expert. I am particularly inept regarding Braavosi cuisine."

Aranya watched her carefully, and then said pleasantly, "Thank you, my lady. I am not a stingy one, though - please, have the first bite." She gestured.

Tristeza turned abruptly, seemingly surprised, and then laughed. "I do not dabble much in poison, my lady." she took a bite of the concoction. "If I were to poison you, one would think I would have it delivered by a hand not my own." She chewed appraisingly as she spoke.
"Well, it is not poisoned...But nor is it remotely enjoyable," she assessed after a moment, before she realized the blue bundle in her right hand abruptly.
"Oh." she said, "And I brought this of my own design. Timm did tell me you had been subjected to a rather...sub-par wardrobe." she bit her lower lip as she took in the pastel dress. "Well...Most of the dresses I have here are simple ones. It is better for me not to stand out so much as I once did...But this is the dress I wore when I first arrived. I think it will suit you better than these, if not ideally. I think it will fit."

Aranya looked at her with frank admiration, as the girl blithely lied about not being a poisoner. Only after she ate a piece of fruit did Aranya take a bite, and she ate it expressionlessly.
She showed considerably more enthusiasm for the dress. it was blue, but considerably more subtle and elegant than the garish flowery dress that she was miserably wearing. "Well, thanks," Aranya said gruffly, feeling that this was a strangely feminine, girly discussion that made her feel awkward, which was irritating. "It's much easier on the eye, and on my honor. I would have walked around naked, though I did not think Villisander and Nero deserved it."

Tristeza snickered; "There is much about Villisander that one would not immediately suppose. Nero would probably wet himself. I do not think he has ever seen a naked woman. It might be worth it just to see that."

Aranya's eyes gleamed. "You would be surprised what Nero has seen." She had skinchanged a cat, and seen what went on in Nero's bedchambers, and Villisander's as well. She winced at the thought of how the cat had died. Anger flickered over her face. She stepped into the the dressing room and began to change into Tristeza's dress.
"Did he send you up here to check on me?" she asked while changing in the dressing room. There was no question about who 'he' was.

Tristeza took a deep breath as she considered this question; "No." she answered decidedly. She contemplated continuing, but decided that further remark might be a betrayal of the Sea Lord's confidences. "How does it fit?" she asked, taking another bite of the bowl of fruit-cocktail. She winced as she tasted it a second time. No better than the first.
