"You have no clue what true justice is," Aranya said. "Killing random women and children is not the same as shooting down armed watchmen who are hired to risk their lives for your prince's security, you hypocrite, and you know it."

The Sea Lord studied her face, "I assume that means you reject my deal." He crooked his head the other way and continued, "If you wish we will only kill eighty soldiers from Duskendale. You can even write down their names and we will murder the ones you choose. They will die as they sleep, or drink."

Aranya looked at him coolly. "I am not going to kill my men to save my own life, Delinal."

The Sea Lord nodded, "You are the hypocrite, and a fool for thinking I do not care for my people. Everything I do is for the betterment of Braavos and her children. Fuck you harlot, when you kill my people you cut me." He stepped back and motioned for the door to be closed.

More days passed in dark silence, measured only by the meals they brought her. Aranya was miserable about Felryn, full of guilt at the brash way she had acted on a diplomatic mission. Felryn's death reminded her of Selwyn, and when she was sure she was alone, she cried into the pillow until her eyes were red and dry.
She couldn't sleep. She imagined her children growing up as orphans - Brynden and her precious little crippled Selyse. Lewyn, away at the Citadel. Daeron and Catelyn, who she was responsible for and who had lost their own parents. The two Dornish children from Wyl. It terrified her, to think of what their lives would be without her to protect them. And her brother Darien, whom she had only just met - would she ever see him again?
She couldn't die here, in the dungeons of that vile bastard. There was too much left unfinished in her life. Her children, her other, secret charge, the poisoner of her feast, Felryn's vengeance, her duty to the realm when the heart of winter came...Aranya clenched her fists. She could not die for some mad princeling, at the Eel's orders.

There was a polite knock at the door, and a muffled man's voice called out, "May I come in?"

Startled, Aranya jerked upright. "Come in," she called, in a voice hoarse with disuse.

The Door opened and Timm Vikary walked in carrying a satin pink gown decorated with many bows and lace. He bowed to Aranya smoothly and then looked around the room. "Are you well Lady Royce?" His voice held a hint of true concern.

Aranya's eyes narrowed at the sight of Timm Vikary. She had known the man for a long time, since she knew Emelia, and had mixed feelings about him. She respected him as a warrior, and utterly scorned him at the same time, for an oathbreaker with no honor at all. Timm Vikary was one subject that Emelia and Aranya could never agree on.
"I have been better," Aranya said dryly. "Have your tastes in clothes changed, Vikary? I hope they cut your new dress to size."

Timm looked at it and shrugged, "They have, but they have not descended this low yet. This is a gift from Lord Delinal." Timm took a deep breath and glanced behind himself at the door.

Aranya walked up to him, ignoring the knives of pain in legs as she walked, and examined the dress. "Very pretty," she remarked. "Though I am afraid I am dirtier than the Happy Port right now."

Timm bowed again, "A mutual friend of ours has convinced the Sea Lord that you can be trusted in better rooms. As long as you swear to not try and escape until his negotiations have finished."

"How very kind of him. The Sealord is really such a gentleman. All right, I will promise to be a good girl and stay in my pretty dress and rooms until his negotiations are finished."

Timm bowed again, "Follow me Lady Royce." As she neared him he leaned in close and whispered something into her ear, then walked into the hallway expecting her to follow.

Aranya's eyes, swollen and red, with shadows under them, widened. She stood still, unable to move, and stared at Timm Vikary. There was disbelief, then a flash of anger. "You had better not be lying to me. Are you sure?"
