ollowing her first escape from the Palace, having fooled the Braavosi guards, security around Lady Martell great tighter--she could sense eyes upon her during her most private of moments, and in fact, the only time she was completely alone was when she was in her own chambers at night, to sleep; and then, the guards watched every entrance--it was on these occasions that Tristeza made use of Lynnia--the servant was about the same height as Lynnia, and so Tristeza used the girl as a decoy whenever she must leave the palace.
In the evening, Lynnia would retire with Tristeza to her chambers, and help her apply a disguise which was impressively close to her own appearance--with a mirror, and Lynnia to look at, it was not as incredibly difficult as it would otherwise be to accomplish this task convincingly.
When the disguise was complete, Tristeza would exit through the main doors of her chambers, try not to face any of the guards directly, and head in the direction of the servant's quarters.
When she was out of sigh ot the guards, Tristeza would slip out of the palace; security was not tight on departing servants, especially not in the early evening, before the sun had even finished setting, and it was not generally difficult to manage this.
When the palace was safely behind her, Tristeza removed the disguise in any private corner she could find--she did not want her spies to feel that they could discuss private matters with anyone claiming to be her, and thus, she felt it was wise for her to arrive to them only in her own appearance; this required her to be cautious as she made her way to the Bazaar, to stay out of sight, and to keep a low profile in the potential presence of harm.
On this night, Tristeza was visiting a woman who, as Kardaine claimed, was a "prodigous sneak." She was of a darkly humorous demeanor, and had a sly manner which "many found off-putting," he had explained to her, though she was loyal to the Martells; a common woman, who had witnessed the blood-shed at Sunspear; her only child had been killed in the blaze, and she sought vengeance against the crown with the same passion which drove the Martell princess. Her name was Syrie.
Tristeza asked her first to go to Lys; she wanted her to learn the ins and outs of stealth and the practice of espionage before she sent the woman into the den of the beast they both hoped to conquer. "Spend some time working on these skills in the east; it will be a less hostile environment in which to grow. When you are seasoned, and experienced enough to outwit the enemy, then, and only then, will you meet them."
Tristeza spent the night at in her home, and returned to the palace by morning, as Lynnia, arriving early at the chambers which were her own, and swapping places with the kind young servant.
