Tristeza slipped out of the Sea Lord's Palace through a side door.
The Sea Lord, as promised, had provided her with a master of disguises, though she had put him to work in a different manner than she had originally intended. She had only met with him on two occasions, and on each he had described the way to apply two different disguises. On the first, he had showed her, using a servant as an example, how to disguise a woman as a man...the disguise included a short pair of stils worn beneath trousers for height, and rough padding in several places to make a slim frame more hefty. He used a dark powder to shadow parts of the woman's face, accentuating them to distinguish them from her normal face, and making them look more masculine.
On his second visit, he had explained how to make a woman look older than she was, and to change her features. He used gluey proesthetics to add growths to her face, and shadows and powders to add lines and wrinkles.
On her own, Tristeza began to experiment with the tools her had left her, learning to create several different disguises, such as an older man, or making a man look like a woman.
A week or so after he had had made his second visit, Tristeza put these tools to work. It was mid-day, and she was, as usual, being watched intently by the Sea Lords guards, though this time, she would need to escape their watch for certain. She dismissed herself to visit the community bath, which was a large steamy room, shared by all of the women who worked in the Palace. This seemed odd to them, as Tristeza generally bathed alone, in her chambers, but she was insistent that she would like to spend the afternoon with Lynnia, a servant she had befriended, and that it would be nice to see the baths for once. Lynnia was privy to Tristeza's plan, and had explained that within the baths, some large partitians were set to alloow some privacy for changing, or the like.
When they arrived in the baths, Tristeza carried her bag into one of these concealed partitians, and applied the disguise of an old, gnarled woman. When she had finished with her costume, she crawled under the barrier which seperated her stall, from the next (which was empty), and exited through that door, in case the guards, who were waiting patiently outside the baths, had sent someone in to watch her. On her way out, she winked at Lynnia, and walked directly past the guards outside without looking back.
She left the palace immediately, making her way to the Dornish Bazaar, where she met with several people who were recommended to her by Kardaine Ladybright, who spent a considerable amount of time in the Bazaar, overseeing the progress of the silk industry, and reminding the common-folk of their common ties to improve morale.
The first man was called Clovys. He had the look of a spy, she thought; he was small, and unimposing, with dark hair, and forgettable features.
She explained to him that she would very much like for him to go on an errand on behalf of the Dornish throne, to King's Landing, and to report back to her on events which took place there. She needed to know the nature of relationships between high lords--she needed to know where adversity, or competition existed, where bonds were tight, and where they were strained. She needed to know their wherabouts, and their plans, if at all possible. "Find a job where-ever you can," she told him, "But if you are able to position yourself near, or within the Red Keep, that would be ideal." She reminded him to be cautious, and to stay safe, for it was a dangerous job.
When she had finished explaining this to Clovys, she moved about the Bazaar, speaking separately with several other aspiring spies, including ones designated for Lannisport, Oldtown, Duskendale, Gulltown, and Fairmarket. Each accepted in turn, and she gave them instructions that she had booked them each passage on a separate ship headed to each of those destinations.
