"Oh, she was of an insignificant banner-house," she dismissed offhandedly, taking a sip from the wine. "You may not, but you know much in the ways of...the darker sort of people. That's admirable, in a way, brave."

Flea smiled, "We compliment each other well then." Making a mental note to track the two high-borns down and blackmail them.
The bar maid returned with their food. Flea smiled at Marina shyly as he waited for the maid to finish ladling stew and leave again.

Marina only smiled at that while sighing internally. Maybe in a way they did, but never socially, not anymore. When the maid began alloting food, Marina used to time to do some thinking, nibbling her lip when she thought Flea could not see. When the woman left, Marina spoke up. "You don't do those dangerous things anymore, do you?"

Flea raised his eyebrow, "What dangerous things?"

"Sneaking up on bad people, working with them, like you did for Lord Francis."

Flea shook his head. "No. People do that for me now. I do the boring stuff. Writing letters, paying funds, doing meetings, making sure people are in the right place with the right tools for the right job... You know, boring." Flea shrugged but smiled. "At least its more fun than running Shallowgrave.. that's boring, i'm glad I hired that old man as a steward."

Marina stared at him open-mouthedly until she realized what she was doing and snapped her mouth shut. "You do all that? I thought you ran this tavern, Flea. What is all this?"

"Yeah... I took over alot of what Lord Varner was doing... now that he's gone. There wasn't anyone else, and there were alot of people... you know, who worked for him. So I started to give them orders and listen to what they had to say. Lord Varner gave me Shallowgrave, when he died. Its not very big, just maybe fifty souls, but it keeps me in enough money to do this full time, so that's what I do. And while doing that... I sort of got the tavern. I don't, you know, own it... I just sort of.. Well the owner owes me, and... stuff. I'm not explaining this very well am i?" He said with a frown.

"Oh..." was all she managed for a while, becoming reabsorbed by the restless motion of her thumbs. "That's a lot of...responsibility." She paused for a long moment, seeming to struggle with herself. "If you ever some help with it all, or run into some trouble, remember you can always come to me, okay?"

Flea sighed, "How can you help?" he asked, more tired than dismissive.

Marina shrugged. "I can find a way. Lady Aerie is good at killing people and I can be quiet when I want to, too. I don't know. I just know that I would help." She smiled helplessly.

Flea smiled. " I know you would Marina, I trust you. But I donno, Lady Aerie works for the Beetle doesn't she? I know she used to."

"She did, or perhaps she still does. I don't think she knows herself. She didn't like Benfry, and then...you know what happened. The Blackwoods had so much taken from them." She shot him a curious glance. "You met with the Beetle. It was on friendly terms."

Flea nodded, "With daggers out and on the table." Flea said, "Beetle doesn't think I should do what I do, he wants me to do the little, dangerous work for him, not the big work that I do. And I didn't want to. So we fought about it. But that's over now."

"Have you been working for him at all?" she probed, trying to understand the situation. "You have to be careful, Flea. The Beetle is a shrewd and dangerous man. Fighting with him is not wise!" Her face was tight with concern.
