"Your tavern?" she echoed in startlement, scrutinizing him carefully as if expecting to see wings spout from his head. "How...?"
She shrugged easily at his dissatisfaction, plopping down into a seat to demonstrate her comfort. "I've been to enough places for lords and ladies. This is something different, something interesting. I like it." She paused. "Lady Aerie told me that you thought I looked like I snored. Do I really?" She looked genuinely worried.

"Lord Varner left me some land and money... when, he passed." Flea looked down at the table for a moment, as Marina asked her next question.
"Well... I maybe said that, but you certainly don't look like you snore any more." Flea said with a smile.
A bar maid entered, with two cups, and a bottle of Arbor gold.
"We've got boar and game hen, Flea, both fresh. The Boar is in a stew with carrots and potatoes, and the game hen is on a bed of leeks. What'll it be?" Flea shrugged and looked at Marina.

Marina nodded sympathetically, not wanting to press the clearly uncomfortable matter.
Her face loosened in relief when he revoked his statement--perhaps she had been an awkward-looking youngster. "That's good, I suppose," she replied rather embarrassedly as the table top suddenly became a fascinating spectacle.
She looked up quickly when the door swung open to admit the bar maid, feeling slightly frazzled with the responsibilty of dinner now upon her shoulders. "The boar?" she ventured finally.

Flea nodded, "good choice." the barmaid seemed satisfied as well, and soon disappeared. "Do you drink wine..." Flea asked, as he poured the wine into a cup, "You know I do, you caught me at it in the kitchen a time or two."

She giggled at the memory. The boy had stuffed his face like a dying goat. "I vividly remember that," she assured him dryly. "I drink it sometimes. Alyssa brings home enought of it." She wrinkled her nose dantily at the thought.

Flea smiled and poured her a glass as well, careful not to spill a drop, he placed it before her with precise movements.
"You were always good, about not tattling on me. That's what I always remember most, about you. Of course and your smile," he says, blushing, "Your smile, and the fact that you never tattled."

Cheeks warming, Marina laughed gently at his statement while twisting a tendril of hair between her fingers. "I would never tattle on a friend," she said earnestly, "and besides, you always made me laugh. It was nice to have someone my age around, even if you did think I snored. I was worried about you when you left. I didn't want you to be alone again, and hungry." Her questioning eyes shifted to the dark rings about his. "You look tired," she noted suddenly, frowning.

"Yes, I am all those things. Some times I forget to eat, unless I have a pretty companion to eat with, and I am without, but not this evening." Flea smiled shyly. "And your laugh was alway so... well, I stayed awake at night thinking of ways to hear it again." he sipped his wine as the room was silent.

Marina lapsed into an awkward silence as she finally realized where this was going. She studied her folded hands with pink-cheeked doubt at his flattering, grasping for something with which to dispel the quiet. She though Flea was a nice boy, truly, but there were many flagrant differences between them, differences that divided with the efficency of a dagger gliding through flesh.
"You need to take better care of yorself," she repoached tactfully before initiating another hush of silence. "So," she began, "have you been completely occupied with the inn all this time, then?"

"This and that." Flea said, "What about you, is looking after Alyssa a full time profession, or is there time for the things you like to do?"

This and that. Wasn't that lovely and vague. "I like King's Landing," she insisted, abandoning her hands completely. "It's so exciting. There are always the most gallant knights about, and ladies on their palfreys, or meetings about to begin." She spoke enthusiastically, as if she really believed in the intrigue of such ongoings. "I do a little bit of archery with Alyssa sometimes and ride in the woods with Nemesis." She lowered her voice. "They say there are bandits out there, but Alyssa doesn't stop me. I haven't found them yet, but Nemesis and I are always on the watch."

'Meetings?' Flea thought to himself, "What kind of meetings do you go on? Are they interesting? Whose meetings do you get to go to?"

Marina's face curled into an innocent smile. "Oh, this and that," she replied complacently.

"I'll tell you about one of my meetings, if you tell me about one of yours." Flea said, the beginnings of a smile creeping on this face.
