Baldric stalked his prey, he probably didn’t have to get his hands dirty anymore, but some people just needed to be killed the right way. Things were going well in Sunspear, the Dornish gangs helped keep an easy peace in the streets and every few days, Flea would send a list of merchants that weren’t cooperating and his goons would be upon their warehouses and homes stealing everything that wasn’t nailed down.
The man he stalked today, however, was more important. This man was a rabble rouser, he made a habit of speaking out against the occupiers and pushing for resistance to the King and Crown forces. Baldric, already knew what had to be done before the order came from Flea to kill the man.
Baldric crept behind the man about twenty paces behind, rabble rousers were to be quietly removed and not given a Martyr’s death so Baldric did what he could to remain out of sight.
The man ducked into a shop along the way, he moved quietly to the shadows of the alley way across the street and waited. What goes in must come out he thought. The street was dark with almost no moonlight and the chill of a winter night in the desert had kept most people away from the night markets.
Baldric signaled to Stutters who was waiting on the other side of the street with a hand cart hidden in the alley across the way. The man couldn’t complete a sentence to save his life but he had grown to become a decent shot and swordsmen.
Eventually, the man reemerged. Baldric looked twice confirmed his identity and then let loose with a single crossbow bolt. Baldric had modified his light crossbow slightly, with most of his targets now unarmed; he sacrificed power for a quieter release.
The bolt whizzed through the street and found its mark in the man’s neck. He gargled for a second before the massive blood loss from his major artery brought him to his knees.
Stutters immediately moved out with the hand cart meeting Baldric in the center. The two men lifted the man up and placed him into the cart. A throw was placed over his body and the two men were pulling their target through the streets of Dorne less then thirty seconds later.
Thirty minutes later the body was disassembled back in their warehouse and the body parts scattered to a number of different parts of the city and fed to the merchants hogs.
While some would wonder the fate of the man, the people of Sunspear would never know what happened to the man that criticized the occupation. Some would say he ran off with the money he collected to raise swords or that he lost his nerve, while others would be closer saying he was killed to protect the spread of discontent. Soon everyone knew, however, that trouble makers were being swallowed by the city itself and vanishing without a trace.
Old women would say that it was Bloody Alex Irwyn, the Butcher of Sunspear, stalking the streets and killing anyone that made so much as a scowl about the policies in Dorne. Baldric of course knew the truth. The streets belonged to the Shadow of Sunspear and resistance meant death.
