Ser Keldon paced outside the Maester’s tower anxiously awaiting the report that would say if his liege lord was going to survive. As Lord Irwyn’s bodyguard, he had failed, allowing four assassins to make an attempt on his banner lord’s life. For Keldon the worse part was that he had detected something wrong months earlier but had failed to investigate it further. Loren, the small folk that Lord Tarly had brought to Godsgrace, seemed much to eager to meet Lord Irwyn at the table and while he did an initial inspection of the man which turned up nothing he did not follow up with his investigation and soon forgot about the man.
He had woken immediately to the shouts of Alex, as the assassins’ blades ripped into his lord from across the hall and managed to enter before a death blow could be struck. Ser Keldon praised the Smith that the assassins had not thought to put poison on the blade as that would have certainly resulted in the end of Alexander Irwyn.
“Ser Keldon. . . we checked the rest of the keep, there doesn’t seem to be anymore of them here. The rest of the Dornish small folk from the village appear ignorant but we have put them outside the walls anyways like you asked,” Ser Goodwin said.
“Good and the Lord Hand’s wing?” Keldon asked.
“Clear as well, Irwyn seemed to be the only target of the attackers,” the Upland knight replied before continuing on with his duties.
Keldon nodded, and continued his pacing. “Fuck, that Maester is taking a long time,” he said a loud.
About an hour later, the Maester came out his hands and tunic covered in blood, Ser Keldon rushed him, “Will he live?”
The Maester nodded, “he will and should make a full recovery.”
“Blessed be the Seven,” Keldon said giving the man a hug. Keldon turned, “Spread the word, General Irwyn lives and will make a full recovery,” Keldon said to the other guards. Soon a cheer went out among the soldiers at Godsgrace, although Keldon knew that he might not be as lucky next time and redoubled his efforts at protecting the most hated man in Dorne. The Martells in Braavos would no doubt send more assassins to try again.
Results:
