Evander found himself busy one day weeks before the Duskendale tourney was to commence. He milled through the streets of the port, examining shops and stalls in markets before heading into the training yard to practice.
At first he just watched other fighters but gradually he let himself mingle on the scene. He eyed a houseless knight named Ser Bors and the man approached him.
"Will you spar with me, ser?", Ser Bors asked as he drew his sword.
Evander said nothing but nodded to Bors as he drew his blunted blade. They both bowed to each other and the fight commenced.
Evander was the first to make a move as he ran against the Crownlands knight, swinging his blade in a flurry of attacks. As Bors moved to retreat, Evander fellupon him and Bors fell to a knee.
Evander made the first strong hit of the match as he took advantage of this and hit Bors upon the shoulder. Bors was unbalanced and still weakened from the last blow when the Stormlands bastard came at him a second time, this time even stronger than the first.
The blow hit Bors in the head and knocked him to the ground.
As soon as the match was clearly over Evander gave Bors a hand up from the ground, and congratulated his opponent who grunted in response.
Evander kept wandering the yard for a while longer, testing his skill against some more apprentices of the sword and trying to give pointers to young squires and pages.
As he did this he saw Ser Dunnock invite him to train and accepted. Dunnock donned his sparrow helm as Evander put his own simple one on.
The duel of the bastards was only a little longer than Evander's first. Inititally Dunnock appears to make the first attack, but the Stormlands swordsman find a weakeness in Dunnock's stance and takes advantage of it. After being dealt a strong blow Dunnock changes to a more defensive stance.
Adrenaline fills Evander as he rushes Dunnock again, striking the bastard of the Neck with another blow, which sent him back a little. Evander watched Dunnock fall back and he ran against him again, hoping to force the man to yield this time.
The men traded superficial blows for a while longer before Dunnock let his guard down for a moment. The short moment was enough for the Stormlands bastard as despite his tired nature he landed a final blow upon Dunnock. The Reed bastard yielded now, and Evander accepted the man's surrender with a smile.
His improved talent was now visible, and Evander made a few strikes through the air, testing the weight of his sword before heading back into the crowd of duelists.
Evander kept dueling for the rest of the day and week, winning and losing to a seemingly endless amount of people before he could say he found his latest his skill his best.
