"It is time," the Septon intoned, and Dougal rose from his vigil, following the Septon to the altar. "Kneel and we shall pray." Dougal did so, and the Septon spoke his prayers as he anointed Dougal with the seven oils.
The Septon then bid Dougal to rise. "You have been anointed in the name of the Seven, and you have received their blessing." With that he turned to Ser Devon. "He is ready." With that, the Septon left the two alone.
As Dougal turned to his father, Ser Devon drew his sword, smiling proudly. "We've both known this day would come, son. Kneel." Dougal complied. "Dougal Lannister," he put emphasis on the name, it having never before been spoken, and Dougal's eyes widened. "In the presence of the Seven, do you swear that you shall honorably serve in times fair and foul, defend the weak and meager, honor and protect women and children, and take up arms against the corrupt and unjust?"
Devon nodded solemnly. "I do."
"In the presence of the Seven, do you swear that you shall not seek profit over honor or power over justice, nor defile a woman, bring harm to the innocent, nor falter in the face of tyranny?"
"I do."
Devon tapped Dougal's shoulders with the flat of his blade, then sheathed his sword. "Rise, Ser Dougal... and follow me." Dougal blinked hard to mask his watery eyes as he did so, then smiled as his father led him to the room where he'd exchanged his traveling clothes for the simple robes he wore for his vigil.
Waiting for him alongside his sword and shield were vestments matching his father's, with the Lion of Lannister, the colors no longer inverted.
"Now hurry up and get ready, son... we still have a ways to go to make the tournament." Devon grinned.
