Atop a chestnut steed, Evander Storm made his way through the Kingswood, ever weary of assailants. He would watch for the tracks of other riders and when he passed travelers he would hail nicely. After all, Evander wasn't a cruel man.
He had been raised at a sept, but just a few months in Dorne had changed it all. Where the Seven had previously held a place in his life, now the place was taken by swordplay and the exhilaration of a fight. He was still peaceful in his spirit, and an honorable character-- despite being witness to horrendous acts in Dorne. He was not spiritual anymore though, and he felt that his religious self was dead now, like so many he had seen on the bloody dunes of Dorne.
Evander was dressed in boiled leather, chainmail and a dark blue tunic-- gifts of a richer knight than he. Fortune and favor was what he sought to gain, and if anyone knew the life of a bastard it was he. He was the product of rape, which made him unfavorable to both his parents, and especially his grandparents. At his side Evander wore a longsword he had grown quite acquainted with. It was well forged of castle steel and he polished it when he could so it maintained its charm.
Evander's horse started make a frightened noise as he himself heard faint noises of a horse rushing through the woods. Hearing it grow louder and louder, he steadily drew his sword and waited to see where the noise was coming from. The answer came within seconds as he spotted an unarmed rider run right towards him. Holding his sword in an nonthreatening way, Evander was called out to by this man, as the man brought himself closer to the bastard knight.
"Ser! You must help!", the man yelled to Evander as he clutched to his reigns. His voice was shrilled from yelling, and he looked exhausted.
Evander tried to act as knightly as possible, "What aid do you require, friend?"
"My wife", came the reply, "we're travelling up to King's Landing and my wife was taken by brigand. He's armed and well...I've got nothing to stop him save my fists." Evander inferred that the man was not skilled with his own fists.
Gathering the reigns of his horse, Evander looked at the man, "Where did he take your wife?"
"Follow me", the man said as he turned his horse back around and sent it back into the woods. Evander bolted after the man until they galloping at the same pace.
"What is your name, ser?" The man tried to yell over the loud sounds of the galloping horses.
"Evander", Evander said, "and yourself?"
"Collan Herston", the man retorted, "on my way back from Lord Dondarrion's wedding when we were set upon by this rogue. I knew traveling this rode would be dangerous for just the two of us."
This nobleman was obviously of relatively little importance, but Evander would not let that stop him from helping. Soon they came upon the last point Collan had seen his wife, and Evander eyed the tracks, before setting off in the lead with his sword held out.
Evander kept alternating his gaze between the tracks and the uneasy path before him. Collan earned several scrapes and superficial cuts as the they passed through the woods at high speeds. Evander was armored and so he brushed off the branches with greater ease, though one did cut a small hole on his tunic.
Evander saw the tracks lead towards a small clearing and the two raced towards it, Evander with his sword held high. As they entered the clearing, they saw the brigand about to rape Collan's wife. Evander was enraged by this, and sent his horse forward quickly. The brigand had enough to to quickly jump onto the horse bareback, as the wife went running towards her husband.
Evander met the brigand at the center of the clearing as he drew a shield from his back. The two began fighting viciously as the two nobles sat with no way to help the fight. Evander met all of the blows of the brigand and in the end it was his rage and adrenaline that made his blows increasingly stronger and faster. After a couple minutes of uneventful fighting Evander landed a strong blow upon the brigand who nearly fell from his horse. Evander struck again and dealt the man an even stronger blow, as his guard was dropped. The brigand managed to lift himself and his sword one more time, but was overcome by the unharmed Storm knight. Within a couple more minutes Evander dealt the would be rapist a quick death with a sword through his heart.
As he defeated the man, Collan and his wife approached their hero. Smiling, Collan thanked him, and his wife repeated the sentiment to an even greater degree. Collan rewarded him with several silver stags and the knowledge of a tourney in Duskendale before bidding him goodbye and good luck.
For Evander there was much to think about, and no question that he would ride past King's Landing to Duskendale.
